William Jeffrey Stoneham (Jeff)
1946 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our cherished father, grandfather, and husband, William Jeffrey Stoneham, on January 31, 2025 at the age of 78.

Born on June 18, 1946, in Dauphin, Manitoba, Jeff was the beloved son of Ruth and Bill Stoneham and dear brother to Jan and Ross. He was a devoted husband of 53 years to Maureen Stoneham (nee Klassen), loving father to David and Michael and treasured grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jay, Justin and Jordyn.

Family meant everything to Jeff. Loving the great outdoors, he was always up for taking the family on road trips to ski, camp or golf in Alberta and British Columbia. Jeff attended all sporting events for his sons, Michael and David, and then for his three grandchildren, Jay, Justin, and Jordyn. He was their avid supporter, taking them to practices and cheering them on in their games. Jeff was affectionately known to them as their ‘weatherman’ as he kept them informed of any changing weather conditions that might impact their outdoor activities. He also found joy in the little things such as sitting outside on a warm day reading thought provoking non fiction books, walking the dogs, and even tending to the backyard water pond. Jeff was always up for a good laugh too, even if it was at his own expense. He found the good in everyone and was everyone’s friend.

Jeff spent his younger years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, attending Kelvin High School and the University of Winnipeg. Being involved in sports was a passion throughout Jeff's life. In high school, Jeff participated in rowing with the Winnipeg Rowing Club, cycling, and then golfing at the Wildewood Golf and Country Club. Later in life he enthusiastically watched hockey, football, golf, and curling.

Jeff was married to Maureen Klassen in August, 1971 and had two children. During their marriage, Jeff was an accomplished sales representative for several different companies. In Winnipeg, he worked for the pharmaceutical company Parke Davis. In 1981, he made a big change in his sales career and accepted a sales position with Monarch Beauty Supplies in Edmonton, settling with his family in St. Albert, Alberta. Jeff’s last sales position was with Ray-O-Max Polar Windows and Doors, Edmonton, Alberta.

Serving the community Jeff lived in, was another passion of his. He was involved with the Keenooshayo School parent group which raised money and constructed the first playground at the school in St. Albert. Jeff was also a St. Albert Host Lions Club member, joining in 1996. He received the Lion of the Year award in 2016 for the many projects he participated in, was a Melvin Jones Fellowship recipient and was the club’s president for two terms. Jeff’s most recent projects were the Maple Leaf Project for grade one students, the Pet Value Dog Walk and volunteering for bingo fundraisers. Jeff was a respectful man, thinking of others first and foremost. He gave blood donations yearly and donated blood just two days before his sudden passing. His wish was always to donate tissue and his body for medical research when he passed. His wish to be a tissue donor was honored on January 31, leaving a meaningful, lasting legacy.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Maureen, two sons, David and Michael, three grandchildren, Jay (Lainey Rae), Justin (Olivia Thrussell), Jordyn (Ivan Jeremic ) and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Bill Stoneham and brother Ross.

Jeff will always be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for his thoughtfulness, kindness, unwavering love for his family, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
Jeff is in our hearts forever.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held in June. Details for the celebration will be shared at a later date.

If so desired, donations may be made in Jeff’s memory to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
