Theresa “Terry” Porter
May 16, 1944 - March 9, 2024
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Theresa Martha Porter, of Edmonton, on March 9th, 2024, at the age 79 years. Terry is survived by two of her sons, Richard Garbe and Norman (Brenda) Garbe; three grandchildren, Tyler (Lindsay) Garbe, Candice Garbe and Kirzten Zoe Balanay Garbe; and one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Garbe. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Malvina Hitman, her ex-husband Robert Garbe, and many other friends and family whose lives she touched. Terry was predeceased by her parents, August and Gertie Hitman; her brother, Stewart Hitman; her husband, Robert Porter; and her eldest son, Randall Garbe.
Terry was born in and spent all of her life in and around Edmonton. She was the regional manager for Western Canada for a toy company called Toys and Wheels for a large part of her working life before moving over to the Bissell Center (Edmonton), where she acted as manager until her retirement. Throughout her life, Terry had a great love for all animals but her immense passion for horses was unparalleled - followed closely by her enthusiasm for, and skill with, her daily crossword puzzles
Thank you to the wonderful 4th floor Neurology staff at the University of Alberta Hospital for their
compassionate care. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
To honor Terry’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service following cremation. You are invited to please privately celebrate Terry’s memory in your own ways, as she will continue to be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
My Condolences to the family,
For a decade of my life I was blessed to have Terry as a mother, she taught me what it was like to be loved. So many precious memories of my childhood were with her and I thank God everyday that I was raised by such an amazing lady… Thank you Terry for setting me on the right path in life and teaching me how to become a young woman back then…. I will cherish the life lessons you’ve taught me and always remember the great times we shared…. May you rest in peace
