It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Shona Trew-Kusmire announce her passing at the Pilgrims Hospice, Edmonton on Sunday July 18, 2021.   She is survived by her beloved husband Rob Kusmire, precious daughters McKenna and Brooke, loving family - parents David and Christine Trew, sisters Heather Kelly and Sheilagh Trew (Jace and Shaye), and the supportive Kusmire family (in-laws Paul and Pat, sisters-in-law Krista, Kathy and their families).

Shona was deeply cherished by her grandparents (predeceased), Gerald and Nora Trew, and Betty Trew (Port Hope, Ontario), Alexander and Mary Brown (Erskine, Scotland).  She was loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins in both countries.

Born in Edmonton, Shona spent most of her childhood and adult life in the Spruce Grove area. She attended elementary, middle and high schools in Spruce Grove and studied Business Administration at Grant MacEwan College.

Shona had a beautiful, loving spirit and warmly nurtured many young children in her day home over the past fifteen years. The exceptional bonds that she created with these young children and their parents fostered an ongoing social network that has provided a wonderful community of love and support to her.

Shona was proud of her Scottish heritage and loved the world of highland dancing and celtic music.  She was a regular participant in highland dancing competitions as a child, a performance dancer as a young adult and continued her keen involvement as a proud dance mom.  This created yet another extensive community of close friends, including dance teachers and many young families who were touched by Shona’s sweetness, infinite generosity and radiant light.

Shona was surrounded by many friends, both families and much love throughout her recent illnesses.  The Trew and Kusmire families sincerely thank all the medical and nursing staff at the various Edmonton area hospitals who worked tirelessly in caring for Shona.

She was our angel and will be loved for all eternity.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the Glory Hills Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life for Shona will be held on Saturday August 7, 2021 at the Spruce Grove Alliance Church commencing at 1:30 pm.  Light lunch to follow.  All are welcome.

Memorial donations may be made in Shona`s honour to the Pilgrims Hospice Society, Edmonton.

Arrangements entrusted to Trinity Funeral Home, Edmonton.

We are deeply saddened by her passing, so much too soon and with so much life left to live. Please accept our most sincere condolences on your tragic loss. May she Rest In Peace.

  14. On behalf of the Stone family, our deepest condolences to the Trews and the Kusmires. Our families have many memories together; dance, pipe bands, trips, Flamingo suppers and Christmas get togethers. Shona was one of a kind, and although our paths hadn’t crossed much in recent years, we’d been following each other on social media. Her strength and love for others was evident in her until the end. Cherish the lovely memories. Rest In Peace, Shona
