Richard (Rick) John Shewchuk
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard John Shewchuk (Rick) on February 28, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Westview Health Centre Hospice.
The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who were involved with his care, especially to Palliative Home Care nurse, Paige Martin, and Dr. Jessica Parker and the entire Hospice Care team. You are all very special and we so appreciate the care and compassion you have and the special care you gave him during this difficult journey.
Rick is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughters Kaleigh (Larry) of Prince George and Ashleigh (Joe) of Spruce Grove, sisters Joanne McLellan of Punnichy, SK and Sandy (Dave) of Seattle, WA, and his mother Sonia of Kelowna. He was predeceased by his father John and brother-in-law Bill McLellan.
Rick graduated from Red River College as a Civil Engineering Technologist and began his career with Ducks Unlimited Canada. He was with Ducks Unlimited Canada for 35 years during which time held positions in Stonewall, MB, Dauphin, MB, Williams Lake, BC, Wainwright AB and Edmonton, AB. Retiring in 2012 he went on to start Little Bear Environmental Consulting, Ltd until he fully retired in 2018.
Rick loved the outdoors and loved to fish and hunt. Over the years he had many adventures with friends on fishing and hunting trips and time spent around the fire telling stories. He also ventured into gardening and since retirement had spent many hours nurturing plants from seed to harvest.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the charity of your choice.
I have such fond memories of Richard, we enjoyed many times together when we were younger with many friends, most enjoyed at the lake, of course, fishing and having FUN anywhere we went. Rest in Peace, Richard XOXOXO
Auntie Shirley and family,
Our hearts are heavy for you and we pray for peace and comfort for all of you.
Love and hugs,
Ali, Bob and the kids
So sorry to hear of your loss. Enjoyed many of those hunting and fishing adventures with Rick.
Sorry to learn of Rick’s passing. I worked with Rick in Stonewall MB in the early 80’s. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and humor whether it was working, fishing at his cabin at Booster Lake or him organizing hockey games for our office hockey team.
So sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. We have many great Manitoba memories of times spent together …. At work, playing baseball, hunting.
Heartfelt sympathy to Shirley and family.

Our deepest condolences to Shirley and her family. Rick was a kind and special person who brought joy and a positive message to everyone that knew him. He was extremely valued and appreciated by all of us at Ducks Unlimited and beyond.
