Olga Marak

With deep sorrow we announce our beloved mom, Olga Josephine Marak, passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2024.

Fondly known as OJ or “Grammy”, Olga is predeceased by Murray (2016), her beloved husband of 65 years; parents Alexander and Mary; sisters Agnes and Borsiene and brothers Rummy and Morris. Olga is survived by her children, Carol, Chris (Jon), Greg, Brian (Tabi), Rona (Shannon) and by grandchildren Alona (Mike), Fiona and Marc. Born February 1st, 1924 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, Olga pursued a successful and varied career in nursing, earning her degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Olga and Murray married in June 1951, making Edmonton their home. Olga completed her nursing career at the Misericordia Hospital, retiring in 1985. Forever curious about the world and everything in it, OJ enjoyed reading, listening to her favourite CBC broadcasts and watching movie classics. She had a fondness for critters of all types and generally loved to explore and engage with whatever was happening in the world. She was especially known for engaging in lively conversation, her sparkling wit and a remarkable generosity of spirit. She was admired for her unfailing kindness, inner strength and an unwavering commitment to family. Mom, we dearly miss you and will forever hold you in our hearts.

With thanks and gratitude we also wish to acknowledge her wonderful caregivers from Bayshore Health, the Misericordia Geriatric Program, Dr. Chichak and her palliative care team and everyone who made her life easier.
