Muriel Catherine Lewis
Our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt died at her home in Edmonton, Alberta on July 8th, 2024 at the ripe old age of 103. Muriel C. Lewis was born on April 30th 1921 in St. David’s Parish, Grenada West Indies to Marie James and Grandison James. Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband Emmanuel Lewis, her children, Michael, Cecil, Alister (Adonis), Marjorie (Greg), Vernon, Merlin and Joslyn.
Muriel married the love of her life Emmanuel, and this union produced 13 children. She is survived by her daughters Jean, Janette, Maureen and Claudette, and her sons Anselm and Aliene. She had 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and scores of nieces and nephews. Her family is extended throughout the United States, Canada, Trinidad, England, and Grenada. Muriel was a homemaker. She baked delicious cakes and breads for her family and community members. She kept an immaculate house, and was highly skilled with her crochet hook. She enjoyed shopping and dressing. She was heavily involved in church activities and served in multiple ministries. Muriel immigrated to Canada in the early 1990’s with four of her children, to join the rest of her family.
Muriel loved Jesus and His Blessed Mother Mary passionately. She prayed the rosary daily, and devoted her life to the Eucharist, and observance of Catholic customs. She attended Mass twice a day when she was in Grenada, and whenever she could in Canada. If she couldn’t make it to mass, she never missed the televised broadcast of it. Her prayer life was unparalleled . Muriel also assisted in raising many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always instilled her love of God to her family and everyone she encountered.
She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
