Melvin Klotz
It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Mel Klotz. Mel will be greatly missed, but he will live on in all of those whose lives he touched. Dad - We send you love and peace. We will endeavor to be good stewards of what you taught us, to embrace life and all it offers. Thank you for all you have given us, we love you deeply. We will hold you in our hearts, it is where you belong. Love Jeff, Jackie and Norma.
Mel was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on March, 3 1939 to Helen and Joseph Klotz. Mel is predeceased by his older siblings, Mildred, Elmer, Norm and Nanette. His memory lives on with his brothers Gerry (Mary) and Dan (Doris), his children Jeff (Teresa) and Jackie (Bret), their mother Norma, his grandchildren Makena, Max, Katie, and Jared and his great-grandchild Axel Jackson and many nephews, nieces and relations across Canada.
Mel began his career in teaching and went on to obtain a PhD from University of Oregon in Education after many years of attending summer school while working. He spent his career at the Edmonton Catholic School System as a teacher, Vice Principal, Principal and concluded as Deputy Superintendent of the school system. He was passionately dedicated to the underdog and impacted the lives of hundreds of students he taught over the years. They provided him great joy and pride. He was a kind and loyal friend. A quiet and compassionate man. A lover of dogs. An adventurous traveler and a very proud father.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of life will be held in the Spring. The family asks in lieu of flowers, to consider making a donation to the Edmonton Humane Society, or SPCA of your choice, in appreciation of his deep love of animals and nature.
