Mary Amanda Marks
It is with deep sadness and great love that we wish to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend, Mary Amanda Marks, who died at the Misericordia Hospital on November 7, 2023. Mary was 92 years old.
Mary was well cared for, loved and adored by all who knew her. She was very generous, kind, compassionate and always willing to give a helping hand to anyone, whether - a family member or stranger. Mary loved her family and friends, greatly. Mary volunteered at church and community events to ensure that the lives of the young and elderly were enhanced.
Mary was born on October 7, 1931, in Guyana, South America. She was the daughter of the late Hilton and Ruby Nurse, sister of Winston Ross and the late William Nurse. Mary was married to James Kenneth Marks who passed away on October 8, 2018. Together, Mary and Kenneth have eight children: Bramwell, Claudette, Claude, Patricia, Rawle, Colin, Hilaire and the late Hewle, Mary was the mother in law of David, Yvonne, Cresida, Shondel, Cheryl, Agnes, Sharon and Douglas, Mary is survived by 20 grandchildren: Pausha, Shennella, Shawnnette, Shevonne, Stacy, Selena, Shaqueita, Marvin, Sean, Michael, Ossie, Travis, Othniel, Derron, Jamal, Colwin, Malachi, Tevon, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mary Marks’ memory will be cherished by all who knew her in Canada and abroad. She has left a lasting impact in many communities throughout her working life as a Special Needs Teacher, seamstress, cake specialist and a Home Care Aid in Canada. Mary always looked forward to the spring and summer so that she can begin her gardening and enjoy all the festive events in downtown Edmonton.
Mary was a devout Christian and was very involved in church activities, such as, choir singing and service to humanity. Mary was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church at the time of her passing.
Mary has left an amazing legacy of positivity and resilience that will be carried on by all who knew her.
May her soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
We wish to thank her medical and spiritual teams, family and friends for their support of Mary.
Viewing of the body will take place at Concordia Lutheran Church 5420-19A Ave NW, Edmonton Alberta from 8:45AM to 9:45AM on Wednesday November 15th, 2023.
Funeral service will follow. Burial will take place at South Haven Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.

We are saddened with the passing of our beloved friend and member of our Singing Community Group “IN HARMONY “. Mary was an inspiration to all of us even when things were not going the right way.
Although she was from Guyana she was instrumental in the Jamaican Community and specifically the Jamaica Association of Alberta Senior’s Group.
We will miss here but surely she is gone to a better place above.
May her soul rest in Peace and Light Abuntant shine upon her.

We worked together for several years at the David Rose School for Handicapped Children, and kept in touch with each other after we both migrated. She will surely be missed. May her soul RIP.

I knew my friend and comrade Mary Marks from us living on Albert Street, Albertown, with her husband and children.mary was very active in the Queenstown PNC group.
