I first met Lowyne in the mid 80’s when I joined staff development. I trained staff for the “new” child welfare act in 1985. She was a huge support as I learned to be a good trainer. She helped learn to train managers and supervisors with Alberta Social Services. She was a wonderful woman, full of joy. She was a great person to have as a friend and mentor. I had the good fortune to work with her again towards the end of my career. She will be missed.
A wonderful example of what a kind and decent person should be
My sincere condolences to Lowyne’s family. She often spoke about her family and was very proud of everyone, especially her neices and nephews, who she was very close to. She was a commited and dedicated Social Worker who helped to teach and mentor many young workers during her career. As a co-worker, Lowyne was always there to help and provide support when needed. Although she had medical issues she always remained positive and had a great sense of humor. She will be sadly missed. Rest in Peace my friend.
I first met Lowyne in 1975 in Singapore airport. She had just “poured” herself off a flight from Australia and randomly stumbled onto my bus.
We then spent a joyous and eventful 4 months travelling across Asia and Europe.
After which we sadly lost contact.
However, we reconnected after a “short” 50 years and were in contact throughout most of this year.
And in June I visited Edmonton when we had another riotous and eventful roadtrip. This time to the delights if Southern Alberta.
A funny and delightful person, full of impish good humour, Lowyne was deeply empathetic and a determination to do things properly. All of which made her a perfect fit for her chosen profession.
Although Lowyne had “a sea of troubles” medically, she didn’t let it get in the way of a good joke, and carried on regardless.
And I shall miss her….

Lowyne became a dear friend to many of us who worked with her at Edmonton Flying Club where she dispatched and looked after several aspects of the front office operations on weekends. A delight to get to know, Lowyne was always full of life and joy. I shall always treasure her friendship, support and shared memories over the years. Maggie
