Rest in peace brother
Rest in peace brother.
I’m sorry to hear of the loss of Leo, your brother, father, or grandfather. I didn’t know him well, but I do have some memories of him, including one that I relate to my students when I talk about climate change. Once he told me about trucking in the north where he had to drive his truck over an ice bridge on a river. In the spring, the ice bridge gets weak and trucks can’t get over safely. Leo and his truck got stuck on the north side of the river for two weeks (as I remember the story) when an ice bridge became weak earlier than expected in the spring. Later it got cold again and he and a number of other truckers were able to get over safely, one at a time. The length of time that an ice bridge is usable and durable is a measure of climate change in the arctic & subarctic. Ice bridge durability has decreased in the past 50 years, showing in a practical way that the arctic & subarctic are warming. Leo’s story is an attention getter, making it real for my students, even if students from Texas can hardly imagine ice that thick.
