Survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn, and son Derek (Dina), son Trevor (Kimberly), and grandchildren Davis and Heidi Vegh, sister Eva Diner, and nieces Suzy and Anne Diner, and relatives in Europe.

He was predeceased by his parents, Julius Vegh and Magdalene Vegh and younger sister Susie Lasak. Ladis was born in Ankara, Turkey and came to Canada in 1954, after living in France, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Egypt, and Kenya.

He attended the High School for Boys in Montreal, Quebec and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University. His career included Dale & Co. and Celanese Canada in Montreal and 28 years with ATCO, retiring in 2005.

He was an active member of RIMS (Risk Insurance Management Society) and FEI Canada (Financial Executives International) and sat on pension committees for Aon Insurance, the Management Employees Pension Plan, and Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund.

The family will have a private celebration of Ladis’ life.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.

    I had the privilege of working with Ladis for many years while he was at ATCO. Ladis was a true gentleman and so very knowledgeable about the insurance industry. I can still hear his very distinctive voice speaking to me as we discussed various subjects. I want to extend my deepest condolences about your loss.

  5. Dear Carolyn and family. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. As you know I worked directly under Ladis for 15 years. He was one of the best Risk Managers in Canada and as my mentor he constantly challenged me to be better and it had a major influence in the remainder of my career. It was my privilege to know him and your family.
