It is with heavy hearts and incredible sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother and baba, Kathleen Huculak (nee Shewchuk) on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the age of 90. Kathleen was born in Willingdon, Alberta on June 25, 1934, and resided in Edmonton, Alberta throughout her adult life.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Johnny Huculak in 1998, and lived a full and independent life surrounded by an exceptionally loving network of supportive friends and family. Kathleen’s contagious laughter could fill a room and her generous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Brian Huculak (Paula Rosson) of Arvada, Colorado; daughter Lee-Ann (Barry) Emment, grandchildren Alesia and Garreth of Calgary, Alberta; and daughter Sherri (Dave) Macki and grandson Ben of Ottawa, Ontario. Kathleen was also a much loved honorary second mother and baba to a circle of extremely close family friends, a treasured aunt to an abundance of family and cherished friend to many, all who will miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert for their compassion and care.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Trinity Funeral Home (10530-116 Street, NW, Edmonton). You are welcome to join the family for a private viewing from 1pm until 2pm, with the service commencing at 2pm and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations ‘in memory of Kathleen Huculak’ would be appreciated by the family, supporting the Dalglish 22q deletion program, at UHN Foundation. This organization is near and dear to Kathleen’s heart, as it provides research and outstanding care to patients with 22q microdeletion syndrome including her grandson, Ben. 8. My! How I will miss our Fedorak and Shewchuk cousins coffee chats with Michael and Walter; far too few, but precious.
Kathleen grew up as a cousin and dear friend of my older siblings, Cassie, Mack, and Jenny. As one of the youngest siblings in my family, I only met Kathleen 12 years ago, when she visited my older brother, Mack, who was in his final stages of ALS. At the time I was editing our Fedorak family history book with Michel and Walter Fedorak. I immediately recognized and loved in Kathleen her father, Mike’s kind and humble demeanor.
Our family sends their deep sympathy for the loss of your beloved Kathleen/.

  9. David and I send our heartfelt condolences to all the family.

Our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of your Mom & Baba. Kathleen and my mom (Evelyn Feniak) spent a lot of time together going for coffee, shopping, and just spending time together.
