John Hyde Wolstenholme
In Loving Memory of John Hyde Wolstenholme.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our devoted father John Hyde Wolstenholme (Jack), who peacefully left this world on July 29, 2023 at the age of 89.
Jack was born on January 21, 1934 in Lac La Biche, Alberta. He was a Sea Cadet, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a radio operator, graduated from University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and earned his pilot's license. He worked for Alberta Transportation for many years and continued to work as a road and highway construction consultant into retirement.
In 1977, Jack settled in St. Albert where his home became a carefree and welcoming gathering place for friends and family with many lively celebrations including pool parties and movie nights in the home theatre he built. Jack took great joy in the wonders of new technology, space exploration and flight and we are forever grateful that he shared his limitless curiosity and love of science with us. He enjoyed tinkering with computers and electronics and building radio-controlled model airplanes and rockets. He was a hockey fan and continued to enjoy ice skating with his grandchildren into his 80s.
Jack is predeceased by siblings Connie Jacobson, Dorothy and Bob Wolstenholme and his son Grant.
He is survived by his children Chris (Iona), Michelle and Mark (Jill); grandchildren Meghan, Shelby, Cassidy Noah, Will and Tyler Monson; and many other relatives and dear friends.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
