Gregory Alan Diewert, born December 4, 1964, to Elmer and Doreen Diewert, and beloved younger brother to Todd, passed away on March 1, 2025, after a brave battle with ALS.

In his final moments, Greg was surrounded by the love of his life, his wife and soulmate Kelly, sons Ryland and Cody Fredeen (Samantha), cherished daughter Paige (Scott Reynolds), and brother Todd Diewert (Patti). True to his spirit, Greg insisted on wearing an Oilers t-shirt and having a game on as he peacefully passed.

An avid traveller, cyclist, sports enthusiast, and active participant, Greg was also a loving, loyal, and honorable husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was incredibly proud of his family, including nieces, nephews, and their children, leaving a lasting and profound impact on all who knew him.

For nearly 15 years, Greg served as the office manager at Weir Bowen, and prior to that, he spent 24 years at Parlee McLaws. Greg and Kelly met at work and were inseparable to the end.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at McDougall United Church on March 13 at 3:00 p.m. Greg requested a joyous gathering afterward, which will take place at Café Lacombe in the Chateau Lacombe. As it’s game night, feel free to wear your Oilers jersey to honor his love for the team.

Greg will forever be missed, but his memory and influence will live on in all of us.

Donations in Greg’s memory may be directed to the ALS Society of Alberta or the Covenant Foundation.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Greg’s passing. I’ve known Greg since play school and all through attending Donnan together. We had a kinship as we were the only two left handers in Mrs Duggan’s class and had to share the scissors! He was a gentle soul even as a young boy. I saw him again when he was at Weir. Could not miss those blue eyes and we immediately recognized each other despite not seeing each other for decades. Sending heartfelt condolences to the family.

  2. Kelly, I just heard the news about Greg today. My sincerest condolences to you and the family. I have many memories of Greg and the best one was seeing how happy he was when the two of you meant.
