He also leaves behind numerous Family in the Wrestling World including his best friend and wrestling partner Andrew Hawkins. His Edmonton Family Kris Stannard and her Mom Erin Stannard and all of the Wrestling Family and Fans that are missing him terribly since he left us unexpectedly on September 23, 2024.
Gord’s love was for his family, music, guitar for some time and of course, wrestling. Gord started training in 1993 with Sailor White and began his wrestling career in 1994. Gord started his own ring in May of 1998 and called it CEW/ Cutting Edge Wrestling. He trained in Alberta at the Hart Dungeon in Calgary in 2002, owned by Stu Hart. After a short time in NFLD he returned to Alberta in 2008 and left his mark creating many new memories for many in Alberta with RCW and other Promoters travelling across Alberta/Sask/BC/MB and sticking with Alberta until the end. Most of his wrestling was with the RCW Crew in Edmonton doing shows in Calgary on a regular basis. He was known as Vince Austin and Colonel Austin for a short time when managing The Stud Stable. His passion for wrestling and the many relationships he created here kept him wrestling until his passing in Edmonton.
He was always liked by his co-workers in his career in security and his clients when he worked as a Care Worker/Aide. They always liked Gord because he had compassion for others, especially those that may be struggling.
Thank you to his Physicians Dr. Atul Khullar and Dr. Paul Johnson for their dedication and understanding of Gord and his health needs He had great patient/physician relationships with both. Gord’s wish for the past decade has been to donate his brain and spinal cord for concussion research. We were able to fullfil that wish by working with one of North America’s best research facilities. Gord knew his love of wrestling had come with some consequences after some time. He wanted everyone to know the importance of learning more about concussion and how to heal properly before going back out to doing what you love safely.
He will live on, leaving us all his wisdom and knowledge about old school wrestling, Japan wrestling, hard core wrestling and of course the wrestling belts. His time was spent researching and finding any information he could on music whether it be metal, rap, rock and the wrestling and sharing it with us all. He leaves us many sayings to repeat until the end of time. We all wish you a great new journey Gord, and thank you for the great memories
