Born June 26, in Amato, Catanzaro, Italy passed away December 14, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppina "Josie" Ghidina, a cherished mamma, nonna, bisnonna, and dedicated friend, who passed away peacefully,surrounded in love & memories,with her cherished family.
Giuseppina was born on June 26 in the picturesque town of Amato, Catanzaro, Italy.
She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and tradition-values that defined her life and inspired all who knew her. In 1956, she married her soulmate, Luigi Ghidina,embarking on a lifelong partnership rooted in love and mutual devotion.
The young couple first made their home in Novara, Italy, where Giuseppina worked both as a kindergarten teacher and in the textile industry. In 1962, she and Luigi courageously immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with their two young sons, Franco and Giovanni….later,their family grew with the birth of their daughter, Lucia ,born in Canada.
In their new home,Pina & Gigi worked hard to support their family…Josie worked as a talented seamstress in the dry-cleaning business, and later as an award winning chef at Sears Kingsway,where she enjoyed a career spanning over 25 years. A true culinary artist, Pina poured her heart into her cooking, specializing in traditional Southern Italian dishes that delighted family and friends alike. Her kitchen was a gathering place, filled with the aroma of homemade pasta, fresh sauces, and warm laughter.
Giuseppina's heart was as big as her meals, and she shared her love not only with her family but also with her cherished dogs, Beya, Mimi, Lola, and Totti, who brought her immense happiness and companionship throughout her life.
Nonna was a true Italian lady who loved her fashion,loved loved her high heels 👠 ,loved her opera,loved her garden where her roses of many
colours flourished.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Luigi; her son Giovanni; her sisters, Felicia and Serafina; and brother Giovanni.
Giuseppina is survived by her children, Franco (Silvia) and Lucia;
her grandchildren, Teresa, Paolo, Antonio, Brendan, Liam, and Isabella; and her great-grandson Lucas,all who brought her boundless joy in her later vears. She will also be forever remembered by her many nephews and nieces, in Canada and in Italy.
A private family prayer service and burial will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery, Edmonton, where Pina will be laid to rest beside her loved ones.
