Emilienne (Millie) Fernande Mighton nee Esquirol
Millie passed away at age 95 from complications after a hip fracture on Sept 14, 2023 and is now reunited with her devoted husband Don. Don predeceased her on July 29, 2022 at age 93. They are survived by their children Michelle(Kerry), Margot, and Jeffrey along with grandchildren Elise(Tenille), Marc(Paige), and Monique. Millie was predeceased by her parents Henri Esquirol and Albanie Pomie and twin siblings Denis and Henriette.
Millie’s father emigrated from France in 1906 to obtain land near Jackfish Lake, Saskatchewan. He cleared the land with a team of horses and established a sizable farm. Henri later wrote a childhood friend in France, Albanie Pomie, and asked her to join him on this adventure in Canada and to be his wife. She bravely agreed. Denis and Henriette were born in 1923 and Emilienne came along in 1928. Millie spoke fondly of memories on the farm and was proud to have been raised in Saskatchewan but did not want a life on the farm. She asked her father to allow her to complete Grade 12. She then went on to study nursing at Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert. She made some life long friends in those days and enjoyed attending dances including the ones at the Catholic Youth Organization where she met Don. They married in North Battleford in 1955 and later moved to Edmonton and bought the house they’d live in for 59 years. It was there that Millie became a devoted mother and homemaker. She always made sure that everyone was well fed and looked after. She enjoyed sewing, painting, coloured pencil art and gardening. After Don retired they enjoyed many trips abroad as well as camping throughout Canada and the US.
We are grateful for our parents long lives together in good health. They will be missed.
A funeral mass will be held for Millie on Monday Sept 25, 2023 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sherwood Park, 13 Brower Drive. Private family internment of Millie and Don’s ashes will be held at a later date.
Michelle, I was sad to read about your parents. Condolences to you and your family.
