It is with great sadness that we announce that Elsie Winifred Mayhew passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 99 on August 30th, 2024 in the Leduc Community Hospital. She was a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, and friend to all who crossed her path.

She will be lovingly remembered by her Grandchildren Jim and Laurie (Wayne), and Great Grandchildren Mathew and Cassidy. Elsie leaves behind her sister in laws Bette and Joan as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and an abundance of wonderful friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband George as well as her daughter Patricia & Son in Law William and her brother Clifford.

Elsie was a kind spirited woman who touched the lives of many people. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her can speak to the level of friendliness and care that she shared for her friends. Elsie was the kind of person to always put others first and wanted to ensure that everyone was always doing good. She would often be heard saying “as long as you’re all ok!” even in her time spent in the hospital. Elsies made many of her friends through square dancing, which was an activity she did for many years with her husband George. Elsie and George shared a love story that you often only see in fairytales. They spent 76 years together, camping in their motorhome, square dancing with friends, people watching and spending time with family and friends.

We would like to extend a huge ‘Thank You’ to the staff at Leduc Community Hospital in unit 32 and 22 for their tremendous care and hospitality towards Elsie and the family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Elsie’s memory to S.C.A.R.S (Second Chance Animal Rescue Society), or a charity of your choosing. Elsie was a huge donor to many charities.

  1. This amazing woman welcomed me into the neighborhood when I bought my first house beside theirs. George told me about the issues with the house and Elsie offered me tea and a welcome home hug. And for 8 years it was the best place I could have chosen to live. They took my dog Nick for car rides and romps in the back yard and tonnes of cookies , because he liked them, while I was at work. She had the best most beautiful geraniums, made the best tea when I went to visit, was passionate about George and her family and loved life. She was strong and tough and kind and sweet and funny and clever and so aware of things. I miss her smile and her welcome in every time I saw her.

  2. Dear Jim, Laurie and Family. We were deeply saddened to hear of Elsie passing. She was a warm kind and caring person who will always have a special place in our hearts .Love you dearly Elsie rest in peace.

  3. Our condolences to the family and may her memories be cherished forever.
