After graduation from NDA in Grand Falls, NL, Tom attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS, and received a BSc. He then pursued a career in Civil Engineering at NS Tech and worked several years in this field.
From Engineering he decided to focus on a career in Dentistry at Dalhousie University, NS, and graduated with a DDS. This became his true passion. He maintained a partnership practice in Halifax for many years. In later years he taught aspiring dental students at Dalhousie University. He was affectionately known as “Dr. B.”. Tom demanded nothing but the best from students in his fair minded and helpful way.
A lover of sports, he was a great baseball player and coached in his hometown of Grand Falls and was inducted in the “Baseball Hall of Fame” there.
He also loved hockey, played, and coached the ANDCOS. While at St. Fx he was a notable player and teammate.
In season Tom loved salmon fishing and “reading the waters:”. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family and was loved for his many stories from vast experiences and always held listeners captivated.
Tom was a man grounded in Faith, passionate in work ethics and a loving and generous man. According to his wishes, Tom will be cremated. Interment at Grand Falls, NL (date yet to be determined).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Cancer Society of choice.
Celebration of Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church on October 10th, 2024, at 3:00 pm (18407 – 60 Avenue NW, Edmonton) by Father Leo Hofmann.

Tom was an old and good friend of my dad, Alphonsus (Foney) Hennessey. I met Tom at a trade show in Halifax years ago and we had a great chat about Grand Falls and his friends there. A wonderful man. Sending sincere condolences to his family from our family. God bless.
I was very Lucky to have him as a Stepdad. He was a Very Dignified Man. I loved him very much and will continue too.
He taught me new things. By being there, he filled a Room with Knowledge, Talking and Laughing.
One thing we did together and enjoyed so much was feeding Squirrels and watch them fill their little cheeks, running along the fence top.
He spoke of Grand Falls often and growing up.
I Love you very much Tom, you will always have a place in my Heart.
Tom, was a giant to all his cousins. A beautiful model of the best qualities of his mother and father – Aunt Bride and Uncle Phil. Our times together here in Halifax are treasured. Bless you Tom. Our sympathy to Marie and family, and live towards all our Blackmore cousins from Mill Road.
It is with a heavy heart I received this news this morning. Tom was indeed a great person, kind and generous and I considered him a friend. He and my husband DR. John Cox were the best of friends for years. Sadly John passed away last January so I am sure those two are sharing many stories. I am sending thoughts and prayers to the family. Sandra Cox
Thomas Hanlon Blackmore was so important to me and my husband & son.
I am his sister Margaret living in Montreal with my son Nicolas & husband Christian. Tom flew to Montreal in 1977 to give me away on my wedding day
in May 1977. In February 1981, Tom came back to Montreal at our request to
be the Godfather on our son Nicolas. Twelve years later Tom again arrived
to be the Sponsor for Nicolas at his Holy Conformation. We loved him
very much. A few years later Tom again arrived with his loving wife Marie.
They invited Nicolas downtown for the day & he loved it. The next day
Tom & Marie spent the day at our home where we enjoyed a wonderful
lunch & I entertained them at my beloved piano.
We would like to extent our sincere condolences to Marie & her family
at this sad time. Tom is in Heaven now where he can play all the
hockey & baseball he wants & maybe teach all the other angles how
these games are played.
One day we will see him again in Heaven.
Much love to Marie & her family for all the important care for Tom.
And God Bless you.
Margie, Nicolas & Christian Jeanvoine
I was student of Dr Blackmore at Dalhousie dental school in the mid to late 1980’s. I will remember Dr Blackmore as a funny, intelligent caring professional. He had the highest regard for his profession and was a solid clinical instructor ! My memories recall his ability to soothe both nervous patients and dental students . He had a unique way about him and any student that met him was the better for it . Countless students have benefitted from interactions with Dr Blackmore . I offer his family my sympathy on their loss and the knowledge of a man who was true and committed to offer students and patients the best that he had .
Sad to hear Tom has passed away, but glad to read about his life , family and friends in Edmonton and elsewhere.
Tom was our dentist many years ago in Halifax and we were lucky in that. I’m sure he mentioned one time that I was his first patient (I hope that’s not an old man’s – mine – confabulation.) He said it was quite a transition from engineering.
He was always conscientious and we were fortunate to have him as our dentist as we are to have his former partner now.
