Dr. Ronald James Smith
It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Ronald James Smith, announces his passing, on August 23, 2022, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 79.
Dr. Smith was born on June 12,1943 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He trained in medicine at University of Glasgow, Scotland, graduating Magna Cum Laude and immigrated to Canada in 1975. For over forty years as a dedicated family physician, he served the communities of Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Rimbey, Eckville, Bentley and surrounding areas as well as serving as medical examiner for 17 years. He mentored countless medical students and supported many rural family physicians to establish in the area.
Dr. Smith will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 57 years, Eileen (Howe) Smith, three sons, Adrian (Tracy), David (Sharmila), and Chris (Charleen), three grandsons, Joshua, Kiran and Ronan, his sister, Glenys (Smith) Andrews, and sister-in-law, Victoria Howe.
The family wishes to thank the many health care professionals who looked after him in his final months.
