Douglas Wayne Spotowski
Doug was born and spent his early years in Jasper, a glorious mountain playground. There, he developed a connection to nature and mountains that stayed with him throughout his life.
He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education degree and worked as a highly successful biology teacher in Calgary and Red Deer. His enduring passion was outdoor adventure: hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, and especially skiing, from gentle cross country tours to the steep powder slopes of Rogers Pass.
His love of the mountains led him to create a cycle touring company in Revelstoke BC through which he brought the splendours of Mount Revelstoke National Park to people from around the world.
He was a great husband, caregiver, brother, friend, music lover, photographer, and story teller.
Doug leaves behind his wife Janice, his siblings Nancy, Jerry (Jean), Jim, Garry and Glen (Sonja), her siblings, Paul (Doug), David (Stella), John (Colleen), Elizabeth (Jason), his mother Muriel (Tony), along with a loving supportive extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends.
Janice, I hope you know so many people are here for you. My thoughts are with you and hope you are doing ok. Doug I know you have moved on to bigger mountains to climb and longer rivers to canoe. take care.
