Doreen Joan Gallacher
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Doreen Joan Gallacher (nee Spooner) on October 10, 2022.
Doreen is survived by her husband of 63 years Thomas Robert Gallacher (Tom); her two sons Tom (Allison) and Doug and her three daughters Joanne, Dianne (Bob) and Dawne (Rick) along with seven grandchildren (Melanie, Tommy, Wendy, Tori, Colby, Nicole and Natalie) and two great grandchildren (Cohen and Khloe).
She will be remembered for her unrelenting love for her family. Doreen was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Her greatest joy was her family, and she lived her life for them. Doreen will forever be remembered for her love of family. She also leaves a legacy of petit point for all her children and grandchildren, pieces of art and love which will be cherished. There were also many, many nights of playing cards and drinking coffee with friends and family.
She also had another group of friends which was known as “The Club” who had known each other since junior high school. This group of ladies met regularly for lunches, travels or coffee and always had lots of gossip and lively discussions.
Once her children were old enough Doreen joined the workforce and was employed by Eaton’s department store, Boots Drugstores and Sprague Drugstores – although her focus remained on her family.
Doreen also loved to travel with her husband and had seen much of the world including living in Cyprus, travelling through much of Europe (England, Netherlands, Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal), Greece, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Jordan, Mexico and of course the many winters snow birding in the USA Arizona as well as travels to other states. They also travelled in Canada and went across country to the east coast.
She will be missed forever, but her family legacy she created will live on for future generations.
As requested by Doreen, there will be no services. She preferred to be remembered by others where they could reflect in a private about her long and varied life.
We met Doreen and Tom on a trip to Morocco. Great people who felt like being with old friends. We had visits when they were in Arizona, kept in touch via E-mail and have fun memories of our times together. We will remember Doreen for her warm smile and friendly ways. May she rest in peace.
We met Tom and Doreen when our hubbies were in EPS Traffic Division together. Our kids were little and we spent many hours playing cards & drinking pots of coffee after the guys finished an afternoon shift – frequently until the sun came up! We had great visits… Doreen and I frequently won those card games (in my memory) and we all had a lot of fun!!
We also spent a few New Year’s Eves together after our kids were grown…once again usually with a coffee pot & cards!
I have many great memories from those evenings, our kids weddings, our anniversaries etc. Doreen and I shared many laughs and happy as well as sad times together – she was a big part of my life for many years and will always be sadly missed.
Thank you Doreen for the many memories! 💕💕
I remember many good times with the family on the farms. Parties, laughs, pranks and more.
We are sending our condolences and many hugs your way!
My condolences to Tom & his family. Sorry to hear the sad news. Tom & I are from class 12 ECP
Tom and family,
There are just No Words to convey our sadness that’s in our hearts for you and all your family.
We go back a long time having had a very close and special connection. Spent many times sharing a bed with you Doreen (there was always enough room when we came up to visit) and we would lie there and just giggle together, for hours😂. Our parents yelling at us to be quiet and go to sleep. My favorite memories were out in Irma on the farm and also after the move to Edmonton. Fun, fun times.
Loved seeing and spending good times together later in our lives, at our CAN-AM Family Reunions in ID and Carstairs🥰. Just won’t be the same w/o Doreen there. She will be missed by all of us🤗
Be strong during these horribly sad times. Just know our daily prayers are being offered for each and everyone of you🙏. I do believe she’s watching over all of you and at times you will feel her Angel Soft hugs. God Bless all of you❤️
Much love, caring and prayers. Steve & Anne💕
