Desmond Langham Francis
Des passed away peacefully in Edmonton, AB on Saturday August 27, 2022 with jazz music playing and his daughters by his side. Des is survived by his wife Sandra Francis nee Perkin, Daughters Lee Francis-McLeod and Leslie Tomlenovich (Joel), Grandchildren Carter, Luca, Ronan and Sonia.
If you knew Des, you know his passions were Volvo cars, electric guitars and jazz. Des moved to Edmonton, AB to be closer to his family and happily found many opportunities to play guitar in local ensembles.
Lee and Leslie would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Royal Alexander Hospital ICU for their exceptional care and compassion.
"When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared and miss me, but let me go."
So very sorry to hear this news. Des I know you will be looking down wondering why we are in a sad state…..well, we will be missing your caustic wit and knowledge that was beyond most of us! Rest in peace my Friend and from our Radio Operating days our Morse Code sign off Dit Dah Dit Dah Dit.
We came from the same home town, Hartney, MB. You were 3 grades behind me in high school and enjoyed calling me Elvis because of my hair cut. Later on you became a radio operator, whether I had anything to do with that, I don’t know. RIP Des, QRT.
You gave something to everything you touched, a morse key pounding out a marine forecast, model battleship in assembly on the office counter or your guitar resting in your lap during silence period on the late shift.
Miss your wit and engaging conversations hoping we would get together one more time and make fun of each other. You are remembered.
