Andrew Gordon Campbell
Andrew was born to Peter and Cicely Campbell in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia) on May 9th, 1965. He grew up spending time with his grandparents, Corrie and Florence Marais and Gordon and Florence Campbell. Days were spent in running around in bare feet, climbing rocks and trees and enjoying the love of his family. Andrew has a slightly older sister Gail and a slightly younger sister Joy.
In November of 1974 the Campbell family moved to Colorado Springs Colorado for Mom and Dad to attend Bible College. The next few years were filled with numerous trips around the United States with parents speaking and singing in different churches. A trip to Disney world was also fit in when Granny and Grandpa came to visit from Africa.
The next move landed the family in Camrose, Alberta, Canada, not quite as warm as Africa! While the snow and cold weather were experienced in Colorado—the cold was really experienced in Canada. After Camrose the family moved to Edmonton and then to Strathclair, Manitoba.
Andrew was a keen athlete able to excel at almost any sport he tried. But school was not Andrew’s favorite pastime-probably because he needed more of a challenge! Andrew joined the Canadian Armed Forces in the PPCLI as a small arms expert and played the trumpet in the Corp Band. After 4 years, Andrew decided to leave the army.
Over the next 30 years Andrew tried many employment opportunities, sometimes creating his own company. He also sang in the Edmonton Opera Chorus, wrote and directed his own musical review called “Keep the Home Fires Burning”.
He married Beth Cochrane in December 2010 and become a parent to Karsen and Kayl. Andrew’s children were the most important job he had ever hand. He coached their sports, helped get funding to build new playgrounds, headed up parent committees and for Kayl -learned the in and outs of autism.
Andrew had many friends in many places over the past years. He was always loyal to his friends and family and helped in any way he could – usually he became the computer guru.
Andrew was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in November 2021. Then began the journey to qualify for a lung transplant. On August 25th, 2022, Andrew was gifted with a pair of lungs. After initially doing quite well, Andrew began to reject the new lungs and he passed away quietly in the CVICU at the Mazankowski Heart Institute.
The family would like to thank all the family and friends that have prayed for Andrew and the family as well as all the support given! We are so grateful and appreciative. Family and friends have helped to make a very hard road just a little bit easier! We would also like to thank the Lung Transplant Team at the University of Alberta- they offered hope and were so caring – helping Andrew to fight to keep his new lungs until the end!
In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Andrew’s family through the Go-Fund-Me page for Andrew Campbell.
A service of celebration will be held November 12th at 2pm at Crestwood Presbyterian Church, luncheon to follow.
Thank you!
It’s Gary Hunt I am so shocked and so sorry. Growing up Andrew was like a brother to me. I pray that God has a special place for him in heaven! My love to you all.
