Albertus (Bert) Lamaitre

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Albertus (Bert) Jacobus Lamaitre on September 9, 2024.

Bert is survived by his loving wife Dorinda Stonehouse, his son Sheldon (Morene) Lamaitre, his step-daughter Corinne (Keith) Powelske, his step-son George (Cheryl) Stonehouse, his grandchildren Bailey Lamaitre, Josie Jensen, Brett Jensen, Carly Powelske (Vincent Hwang), Kristie Powelske, Tia Stonehouse and his great-grandchildren Brixton & Walker Hwang. Bert is also survived by his sister Cathy Lamaitre, brother-in-law Darrel (Tammy) Joy, Sister-in-laws Roberta Helsher and Karen Joy, as well as many nieces and nephews that were very dear to him.

Bert was born in the small town of Rijswijk, which is now a part of The Hague, on February 3, 1940. He immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1957 with his family. The majority of his working life was with Canada Post. He retired in 1997 in Sherwood Park.

Bert was a person with quick wit and a great sense of humour. He just loved people and talking to everyone everywhere. He had many friends from curling, golfing and his son’s hockey life. Bert loved creating projects and his home is filled with many of them. He loved to putter in the garage for hours making bird houses, lawn chairs and with tiny scraps of wood, ships, towers and buildings that adorned his fireplace mantel and shelves.

Bert was predeceased by his parents Jan Jacob and Margaretha Lamaitre, his brother Cornelius and his first wife Maryann.

Cremation has taken place. Please join us for the Celebration of Life at Ardrossan Recreation Centre, 80 First Avenue, Ardrossan on October 11th at 11 am.
