Surrounded by her loving family, Maria Lucilia (Lucy) Macedo of Edmonton passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024 at the age 89 years.

She is survived by her three loving children: Paul (Helena) Macedo, Ben (Elizabeth) Macedo and Lucy (Gary) Macedo; four grandchildren: Julian, Jordan, Charlie and Anna; her sister-in-law Fatima Correia as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Jose Maria (Joe) in 2020 after 57 years of marriage as well as her twelve siblings. She took pride in her education and became a teacher in Portugal. In Canada she also worked as a seamstress and nanny. She was exceptionally creative and excelled at many crafts including ceramics, crochet, cross stitch and sewing. She was passionate about her faith and loved her church. She was an avid reader and loved to laugh and to make others smile. Most of all she will be remembered for being the most loving mother and grandmother (Avo) to her three children, four grandchildren and many fur grandbabies as well as being a great friend to many.

  11. Avo always welcomed me with a kind smile and a big hug on each of my visits to stay with my beloved Macedo family. It was especially wonderful to see the love she had for her grandchildren.
