Julie Katherine Witten-Land

January 26, 2020 9 Condolences Print Obituary Send Flowers

Julie Katherine Witten-Land, age 41, lost her battle to cancer on the 20th of January 2020.

She has now been raised in power, received her new body, and gone to be with her loving saviour Jesus in heaven.

She was a determined and fierce woman that lived life to the fullest, to the very end. She thrived on experiences and challenges and wore her heart on her sleeve.

Julie studied Industrial Design at the University of Alberta and was also on the cross-country running team. She was a fascinating mix of both artist and athlete. She ran marathons, ran a business, cross-country skied competitively, and loved to design and paint. She was filled with dreams and had an intense drive to accomplish any task set before her. She valued family and friends and is beloved mother to Nova and Amadeus, and faithful wife to Cameron.

But most importantly, she would want to be remembered for her love for Jesus.

  1. It was always wonderful and memorable when Julie showed up. She was a kind person with a big heart – she will be remembered with love. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

  2. I shared many great events with my daughter inlaw.
Two of which were first ever Hot Air Balloon ride and to be there to watch her cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon. These moments are cherished for a lifetime.

  3. We are so thankful to have known Julie and love her. We admire her talents and fierce drive to succeed at whatever she set her hand to do. She displayed strength in the midst of darkness, love was her biggest accomplishment and she loved her Children, husband and family and friends deeply. Her art was used to enrich the poor and enlarge the ones who looked at it. Her sweet relationship with her Dad was delightful and a great example to all children. She will be missed, the void is huge. Thank God for her two legacies who I am sure will move in with her gifts she left them. Thank you Jesus for Julie and her life. Thank you she is free and thank you that you will fill the void for her family as your Word promises. Our most sincere, deepest condolences to all of you who love Julie. We regret not being able to travel to the memorial. We’ll be praying.

  4. To all the family, we are truly sorry that life took this turn for you.
“Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is a memory, they will live on in your heart.”

Our thoughts are with you all, Richard & Louise Chomlak

  9. Dear Julie

It was a somber day (January 19th) that I finally got around to hanging the majority of my Jalopy Collection. I’d moved onto my acreage in Ardrossan a little more than a year earlier and had definitely procrastinated my whole home paint refresh and subsequent hanging of artwork (which I have a rather extensive collection).

I didn’t know at the time, but that day you had begun working on your exit to this life. I remember shedding a few tears when I had completed hanging the collection – looking back, those unexplained tears are a testament to the heart and soul artists put into their work – there is a piece of them in each and every original piece of artwork.

My walls came to life, and you passed the following day: January 20th, 2020.

41 years old, and a 2-year battle with cancer: some things just hit a person inexplicably hard – and the news of your passing certainly did. I feel like a part of me truly believed you’d overcome your diagnosis. How could someone so full of life…not be alive?! (I am still struggling with this notion).

I first saw your work while attending your early craft sales at Bev Facey – I had no money at the time, but there was just something about you and your work that captivated me – and I knew that one day I would own a collection of your work. Fast forward to today, and my collection has grown to approx. 20 pieces (I’ll miss being your ‘favorite’ collector).

You were a captivating individual, Julie Witten-Land. You had the most amazing, energizing spirit and I believe we fed off one another; it really was contagious having conversations with you. I can appreciate how little you enjoyed ‘talking about the weather’, rather you would jump right in (perhaps even at the risk of offending someone) to ask the tough questions – a girl after my own heart!

Having known you strictly from the art world/Edmonton art scene, and random run-ins in Sherwood Park/Ardrossan I learned a great deal at your celebration of life. It was amazing to learn about the parts of you I knew nothing about, and to see just how much love you instilled in everyone.

You were such a wonderful mix of emotions: overjoyed, enthusiastic, green-eyed (sometimes, haha) – a true spitfire! As discussed widely, you were a warrior – I think the only time I saw you ‘afraid’ was at the concept of competing in Art Battle. You wormed your way into many people’s hearts, as was evident with the turnout at your celebration of life. There are a lot of people that are going to feel really lost for quite some time…

I’ll miss you forever – now is your art battle – enjoy painting the skies!
    Jess
