Grace Guyon (Borsa)
July 20, 1948 - January 16, 2019
It is with great sadness that the family of Grace Guyon shares her peaceful passing during her courageous battle with cancer.
Grace was born in Tway, Saskatchewan, raised in Saskatoon then moved to Edmonton, where she met the love of her life.
She had graduated from the Saskatoon City Hospital Nursing Program, later completing her Nursing degree at the University of Alberta.
She embraced the life she was living with enthusiasm, a loving wife, mother and Grandma, loyal friend, caregiver, educator and mentor.
Grace had the gift of connecting people and valued her relationships - always taking the time to share and learn from each other. She loved making memories sharing traditions, celebrating everyday activities and travelling.
She cared deeply about her family and friends and was known for her generous hospitality. Grace always set her mind on moving forward. She built her career in several areas of nursing, clinical instruction and her years of knowledge working with the Alberta Perinatal Health Program.
She is survived by her husband Ed, daughter Barb (Brent) and son Trevor (Tracy) along with six beautiful grandchildren, a loving extended family and many dear friends and colleagues.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bolster, Dr. Widder, Dr. Shumilak, Dr. Bagshaw and their Nursing teams for their compassionate care received through the University of Alberta Hematology and ICU.
Grace’s wishes were to be cremated. Invitation to share in her Celebration of Life which will be held March 2, 2019 at the Old Timers Cabin, 9430 Scona Rd NW Edmonton, Alberta starting at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging blood donation through Canadian Blood Services.
My deepest sympathy. I remember working as an NICU RN at the UAH with Grace and she was a lovely ,compassionate and very smart woman. My thoughts are with her family

So many fond memories of Grace over the 48 years of our friendship. Camping, golfing, curling, travels to Mexico, dinners out, antipasto making….so many things we will miss.
Grace was easy to love. The perpetual matchmaker, never judgemental and always just a phone call away for advice or just to listen.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you..Ed,Barb,Trevor,her siblings
and all the rest of the family. We know you miss her so much….as do we.

Dear Ed, Barb, Trevor and Families
We were so saddened to hear of Grace’s passing .
We have truly lost one of our best friends!
Grace was the most thoughtful, caring, generous , and loving person we know.
She was always there at a moment’s notice for anyone and her patience and understanding , along with her knowledge made her a friend to all. Grace was such a fun person to be around whether it be for golfing, card games, cooking, cruises, or just being there.
She was always interested in our children and their families also.
We will miss her so much as a neighbour, but mostly as such a dear friend.
May the memories you share be of some comfort to you.

My sincere condolences to Ed and family. I had the pleasure of working with Grace for many years at the Alberta Medical Association and had the honor of being her friend. We had many hours of fun – curling and getting together. Her love of life, people and her family will always be there for them. Grace will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ed, Trevor, Barb and families: I am so so sorry that you have lost your family’s North Star. Grace’s kind heart, her passion and compassion, her ability to see the good in everyone and her love for you all will live on because she left her hand print on this world. May you find comfort in your memories of the wonderful and full life she lived.
My deepest condolences. I am a coworker who worked with Grace on one her many advocacy roles, the provincial mortality review committee. She truly set an example in her dedication and fierce believe in the doing the right thing.
My sincere condolences to Ed, Barb, Trevor and families. Hope you are coping in such difficult times. Grace was a great colleague. Her sincerity and honesty will always be remembered.
Dear Ed, Barb, Trevor and families,
My sincerest condolences to you and the families. Grace touched all our hearts and she is forever an inspiration to make life better. She will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathetic thoughts are with you and the families at this difficult time.
Thinking of you all with love!
My deepest condolences to Grace’s family, friends and colleagues. I only had the honour of working with Grace for a short period of time, but I appreciated and admired her wisdom, compassion and her sense of humour. ?
It’s hard to think about perinatal care in this province without thinking about Grace – such were her many contributions over the years and as I continue her work with the Alberta Perinatal Health Program, I miss her words of wisdom and reflect on her each and every day. The world has lost a great advocate for Mother’s and Babies.
I was truly saddened to hear of Grace’s passing. I worked with Grace through a national coalition of perinatal programs and remember her passion, insight, her practical approach to dealing with issues and her genuine warmth and generosity. She was also immense fun to be with. Alberta and all of Canada has lost a real champion of mother’s, families and babies, but she has left a legacy to be proud of. Her name – Grace – was true in every sense of the word. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.
I was very sad to hear of Grace’s passing. She cared deeply about perinatal care in Alberta and contributed significantly to our Provincial Perinatal Quality assessment committee and safety programs which I think among the most comprehensive in the world. I wish she had had more time to enjoy a richly deserved retirement after such long and dedicated service but I think Grace really enjoyed her work and would not have changed a thing even if she had known time was short.
We are so sorry to hear of Grace’s passing. Our hearts go out to Ed and family. David and Wendy Young
My deepest sympathy to Grace’s family. She was an amazing person. and a strong colleague. She will be missed
I worked with Grace in the area of FASD for several years when I worked for Alberta Justice. Grace was very professional, very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. Please accept my condolences.
My deepest sympathy to Ed, Barb, Trevor & their families. I worked with Grace at the Misericordia Hospital, many years ago. I will always remember her kind heart & great sense of humor. She was a wonderful woman, always had a twinkle in her eye, and a great love for her family. Wishing you peace to bring comfort & loving memories to hold forever in your heart.
Ed, Barb, Trevor, and families,
Our most sincere condolences.
Ed, we will always remember how you and Grace were there for us in a moment of great need. Simply because we were family of a friend. That gesture however small it felt at the time has continued to resonate with us. Grace will always have a special place in our hearts. We hope you find comfort and peace in knowing how many lives she positively touched.
My deep sympathy to Ed and family. We worked together at the Misericordia for quite a few years. I admired so much her wisdom, compassion and her sense of fun. I have great memories of her to cherish.
My heartfelt condolences to Grace’s family at this most difficult time. Grace was a very wonderful colleague to work with in the field of perinatal and maternal safety. The contribution she made towards enhancing the care of women and babies in Alberta was immense. She was passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and fully dedicated to the work that she did over many years. Nationally she was recognized as an authority, and a valuable resource for advice in her areas of expertise. She also always spoke with such great affection at work about her husband Ed and her extended family. Grace was a very special person.
Oh, Ed, Barb, Trevor and families, and Grace’s extended family, we offer our heartfelt sympathies.
Grace led a life of service, graciously and generously. She breathed a fierce love for her family and was so proud of their accomplishments. Grace was also dedicated, in teams, to assisting patients, moms and babies. Friends also benefited from Grace’s ready assistance and advice, and in sharing joys and sorrows. We could always count on Grace, with her wisdom, optimism and good humour.
A lifelong learner, Grace valued the contributions of others. Yet she offered us far more than she knew. Grace was a wise, loving teacher. I (Candy) was fortunate to work with Grace at the Alberta Medical Association. As we reflected on the completion of one challenging, fulfilling project, she joyfully exclaimed, “We should celebrate our success! People don’t do that enough.” Now to celebrate you, Grace. To salute you for your full and accomplished life. And how you will continue to guide and inspire us as we go into the unknown, reminding us to do our best, to enjoy the ride and to celebrate along the way … with Grace.
