May 14, 1964 – January 13, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the wonderful man, Brendan Watson, who peacefully passed at the age of 54 after a long battle with ALS.

Left behind in his memory are his loving wife, Lisa Watson, children Shawn Watson (Loretta), Amy Watson (Mitch) and Austin Watson(Marissa), mother Mary Watson, sister Lisa Marshall (Jim), brother Kevin Watson (Dusty), grandchildren Isabella and Beckett Watson, nephews Logan Marshall, Kalan Marshall and Thor Watson and mother-in-law Louise Marshall and father-in-law Bill Marshall.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald Watson.

Brendan had the kindest soul and valued the love of his family above anything else in life. He was an incredibly strong man in mind, body and soul but it was the resounding warmth of his caring heart that touched everyone the most. Animals were always a significant part of his life and his passion for the outdoors was passed on to his children. His time with us was enriched with beautiful experiences that will forever be cherished in our hearts and he will be deeply missed.

Honouring his wishes, Brendan’s remains will be scattered at the coast of Oregon, a place that he treasured for its beauty and the memories shared there with his family.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the ALS Society of Alberta.

An intimate celebration of life will be held at a later date.

  14. To Lisa and family and Louise and Bill, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son and son in law and will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

  15. Sending the warmest of condolences & love, to each and every one of the entire Watson clan. Never in my life did I ever think the need, of writing such a sad heartfelt statement. But life isn’t fair. I don’t believe anyone ever said it was, but when a tragedy such as this tremendous loss manifests itself…. we are left helpless, heartbroken, and at such a loss.
Truth be told, the most amazing thing I’ll always remember about my lifelong childhood mate….is his sense of humour & outrageous laughter(sometimes bordering on lunacy 😉 I can honestly say, that he and I shared some of the best of times, whether it be skating at Southview, swimming for hours at Forest Lawn outdoor pool on those endless summer days, bicycling around the neighborhood (and new ones soon to be built), going to the latest horror movies, building our own ski hill in my front yard to buzz down with our brandy new MINI SKIS, and graduating to ski school at Fortress, and just plain old fun of frizbee & playing catch. All those movies with kids back in the day, was us. And it was amazing…it was the wholesome foundation in which he and I based our life on before and after our own spouses & kids came along. Brendan and I were teased incessantly by just about every kid in the neighborhood on when we were getting MARRIED…but we never let it get to us, or stop us from having fun & goofing off. Even as a kid, Brendan had more personality than you could shake a stick at. Everyone could attest to that!
We didn’t see much of each other in our later adult years, but being close friends of the family, I always heard of his(their) latest endeavours. At one time he and his family lived in Mexico, and myself & family lived in El Paso, TX. Not bad for a couple kids from the “hood”. 😀 I also know, that in his heart, he based fatherhood, off his own. In all my life, I can count on one hand..the best, most decent, caring, giving, great natured men I have ever known. Don Watson was at the top of that list. What a wonderful role model, and it showed through and through in Brendan’s demeanour, with his own family & from what I’ve heard, his coworkers as well.
Thinking of Brendan, which I often do…I am left with a feeling of heartfelt warmth & in a word of Dutch, Gezelligheid. A feeling of coziness. A feeling that is priceless. Unique & priceless. That was Brendan. One more thing, one of his old jokes….when I called him a smart alec. He’d reply….”Well I know I’m smart, and my middle name’s ALEC. Lol (I’d give him an eyeroll)

    A poem I found very fitting…

~A limb has fallen from the family tree,
that says grieve not for me…
Remember the BEST TIMES, the laughter,
    the song..
The good life I lived, while I was STRONG.

Thinking of you all, with lotsa love, always..
    ~edie xoxo

  16. My sincerest condolences to you Lisa and your family, I will always remember my cousin Brandon. When I think of him, I remember…

In recent years my communication with Brendan can be summed up by 700 pokes. Each poke always made me smile.

In the 70’s, when staying at Aunt Mary’s, my cousin Brendan introduced me to a poster of the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. Thanks Brendan!

As kids at Christmastime, sliding down the stairs on blankets smacking our bums laughing all the way. His contagious laugh will stay with me always.

There are many more memories to cherish and I do. I will miss him.

  17. I was very sorry to learn of Brendan’s passing. I met Brendan through sister Lisa and we had kept in touch from time to time, He was always a dynamic, positive and fun person to talk with; comparing notes on business, marketing and families. Please accept my condolences at your sad loss.
