Mary Elizabeth Lange
Mary Elizabeth Lange ( nee Schattsschneider) passed away on March 26, 2025 after a short stay in hospital. Though we will miss her greatly, we are thankful she is now at peace and free from suffering.
Mary is survived by her children Brenda (Dale), Bill (Rhonda), Ernie (Donna), Ed (Shari) and the blessings of her life, her grandchildren Connor, Sara (Anthony), Braden, and Sheldon, and numerous family. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Art, her parents George and Sophie, her brother Doug, her sister in law Jean, her sister Hazel, her brother in law Lloyd and her nephew Grant.
The oldest of the three siblings, Mary grew up on the family farm close to her home church, Heimtal Moravian Church. She graduated with a business diploma from Leduc High School. After working at Beaver Lumber in Edmonton, Mary married the love of her life, Art, on October 29, 1954. Together they raised their family on the Lange family farm in the Ellerslie area. Partners in life, church and work, they operated a dairy farm for many years before switching to beef cattle. Mary took over the chicken business from her father in law, selling eggs from home as well as weekly at the Strathcona Farmers Market. Along with her mother in law, she always had a large garden and raspberry patch. Mary was a very busy lady.
Mary and Art transitioned to “town” life in Beaumont where she continued to live for many years after Art’s passing at Place Beausejour. In 2022, following some health concerns, she moved again to Salem Manor in Leduc. A very social person, Mary enjoyed and treasured the many friendships she made along the way.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Heimtal Moravian Church, 5315 127 Street SW, Edmonton. Lunch will follow the service. If friends and relatives wish, they can make a donation to a charity of their choice in Mary’s memory.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors and staff at Salem Manor (Leduc) who cared for Mary for the last three years with empathy and dignity.
The Lange family will always have a special place in my heart as one of the nicest families ever known. Mary was the matriarch for sure. Ed and I have been friends since junior high. I was often at the farm hanging out. Mary was always welcoming with open arms when I stopped into the house to find out where I would locate Ed. I couldn’t leave without receiving an offer of a snack and refreshment. We always had a chat about how things were going. She was one in a million in my books. Great to have known you Mary. Thanks for welcoming me into your home and treating me like extended family. Much love to you and the whole family as we celebrate your life. Cheers.
