Doug Hughes

Our beloved, father, brother, son, partner, and friend, Douglas Stephen Hughes, passed away February 27th, 2025, and reunited with all of his friends and family that had left before him.

Doug was born on the 7th of December of 1948 in Edinburgh, Scotland, but raised and formed in Romford, in the London Borough of Havering, England. Doug was the first born son to Harry (Henry) Stephen Hughes and Florence Helena Hughes (nee Leask) and beamed eternally with pride in being a big brother to both Jeannie Edwards (nee Hughes) and Alistair Hughes.

In September 1972, Doug skipped a stone across the pond and landed in Winnipeg, Manitoba meeting the future mother of his children, the lovely and gracious Janet Hughes (nee Crawford) while working together. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Edmonton, Alberta and planted their roots. They were immensely blessed with two children, Jennifer and Stephen. His family and heart would grow from there as his children would go on to have families of their own and bearing Doug grandchildren, Isla, Xavier and Quinn, with one more on the way.

His passions for the arts extended into foreign films, music, philosophy, and travel. Doug’s love for the arts was only matched by his admiration and eagerness to learn and engage with other cultures and people.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 22, at 1:00pm at Trinity Funeral Home, 10530 116 Street Edmonton, Alberta.
