Captain (Ret’d) John Leonard Pinsent
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Captain (Ret’d) John Leonard Pinsent, a beloved father and grandfather, and Poppy to many, who left this world peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the age of 94.
John was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on September 24, 1930 to John and Margaret Pinsent, moving back to homeland Newfoundland shortly after where he proudly lived the majority of his early life. John was a devoted husband to his late wife Marjorie Joan (nee Rose) and nurturing father to Jeanette (Stu), John (Tennille), Shirley (Dennis) and William. He was Poppy to Jason (Linette), Marlena (Ted), Chantal (Ryan), Jonathan (Yvette), Robert (Erika), Tierany (Mike), Kyle (Molly), Tarken, Tajah and his 7 amazing great grandchildren of which he so adored - with one more on the way. John was pre-deceased by his beloved parents John and Margaret Pinsent, his cherished wife Marjorie, his son William and sisters Eileen and Audrey. His family takes solace knowing he is now with them resting peacefully.
John retired in Edmonton Alberta. A Veteran, he had a deep sense of honour and community and enjoyed an extensive career of service to his country as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was a long-standing member of the EUSI and the Royal Canadian Legion.
John was incredibly kind and had an abundance of love to share. He took immense joy and pride in all his family, particularly his grand and great grandkids. Family was at heart of everything he did. He was a friend to so many people who met and loved him. He had the rare gift of making everyone feel seen and special. He filled our lives with love, laughter, wisdom, and support. John is holding hands with Marjorie now, the great love of his life. His spirit lives on in our hearts and the memories we hold.
A celebration of John’s amazing life will be planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to a charity of your choice in John’s memory.
The family would also like to thank Chartwell Westcott and all of the healthcare providers who took such amazing care of our Poppy.
