James Anthony Brashko
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Brashko, our cherished brother and friend, at the age of 54, on Sunday, January 26, 2025. James left us far too soon, leaving behind his loving twin sister Karen, along with sisters Beth, Kathy, Dianne, and Brenda; brothers John and David; 10 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and countless close friends. James was predeceased by his parents, Donna and Tony, and his sister Tina.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, on June 26, 1970, James grew up in Stony Plain, near Hubble’s Lake, where he created lasting memories of life on the lake and caring for a variety of animals, including goats, chickens, rabbits, birds, dogs, and cats.
Everyone who knew James would describe him as a gentle, kind, and caring soul with a great sense of humor. He had a unique gift for reciting poems, often sharing one spontaneously. A true wanderer, James never stayed in one place for long, always eager to meet new people and share stories.
James had a love for animals, history—particularly anything related to the Titanic—movies like Back to the Future, the Edmonton Oilers, and music. He was known to sing his favorite song, “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers, at any given moment.
A talented writer, James penned over 1,000 poems, some of which were published in newspapers and shared with family and friends. He was ambidextrous, teaching himself to write with both hands, and was able to memorize most of his poetry.
James’ memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
