Astrid Helen Walrabenstein, 51
Astrid Helen Walrabenstein, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2018 at her care facility, Capital Care Dickensfield in Edmonton, Alberta. Astrid was born in Ede, The Netherlands on January 12, 1967 to the late Jan Walrabenstein and Marijke Walrabenstein ( Uli Klaeui).
Astrid is survived and lovingly remembered by her sister Merel Jarvis (Walrabenstein), brother in law Ken Jarvis, Nephew Brennon Jarvis and Niece Sophia Jarvis, several aunts, uncles and cousins in the Netherlands and all that were fortunate to know her.
Astrid came to Canada with her parents and sister in 1974 and settled in the Edmonton area. Early in life Astrid became a brain injury survivor who was fierce and passionate about remaining independent in her life. Astrid was fortunate to live abroad in Heidelberg, Germany for a period of time as well as travel to the Netherlands, France, Hungary, as well as various places in Canada. Astrid’s smile was infectious and remembered by all that knew her. Astrid enjoyed visits with family and a rousing game of cards at the best of times.
An intimate celebration of life will be held in January 2019 to commemorate Astrid’s life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Capital Care Foundation (www.capitalcarefoundation.net). Special thanks go out to the staff at Capital Care Dickensfield for their kindness, compassion and love they showed Astrid during the years she lived there.
We will remember Astrid as the eldest daughter from Jan and Marijke .
As my niece with curley hair whom i took care of, so now and then, with great pleasure.
As my niece who left Holland with her mom,dad and sister.
As our niece who visited Holland with her mom and sister. We remember the boattrip on the Loosdrechtse plassen.
Those are good memories.
And now it is time to say goodbye. We hope Astrid will have a new live in an other dimension with only happiness.
Merel,Ken,Brennon and Sophia lots of strenght and know only time can make this loss bearable. We are with you in our minds
Love Ton and Chris
Rest in peace Astrid.I knew Astrid through her long time partner and dear friend Brian.,who is also my twin brother. They were a good couple who stuck together and had many adventures through Brian’s career ,which he did with Astrid always by his side.Astrid had a wonderful laugh and could catch anyone off guard with her wittty comments.Though towards the end they chose to go their separate ways I often thought about Astrid and hoped she was doing well.I am sad she is gone but will always remember her. My condolences to her family through this tough time.
I will forever be grateful to have known Astrid. I first met Astrid through Brian in Calgary. I reconnected with them when they were posted back to Edmonton and enjoyed visiting them in their home in the Fort. She always went out of her way to make me a coffee and to ask how I was doing. She had a beautiful smile. While I lost touch with her when her health had deteriorated, I thought of her from time to time. Her time with Brian I think was the happiest of years for her and for Brian. Thank you Astrid for your friendship and may you rest in peace. I know you are in a better place. Our Condolences to her family – know that she was a special lady.
Astrid rust in vrede.
Astrid rust in vrede
I am really sad to hear if Astrid’s passing. I actually had no idea that she was gone until today.
She was a very strong girl who battled well through her disabilities. I always admired her strength.
My thoughts and prayers to you Merel, Ken, Brennan and Sophia.
RIP Astrid
