Dorothy Verna Lazarenko
It is with great sadness and much love we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Dorothy Verna Lazarenko (nee Arnault) on December 30, 2024 at the age of 83 years old, from ALS at Norwood Hospice Care in Edmonton. Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy is survived by her 4 children, her daughter Kelly (Bob), her son Tim (Joanne), her daughter Cindy (Geof) and son Brad.
Dorothy (Nana) will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Wendy, David (Tarie), Kathryn (Christian), Karly (Jake), Reese, Laine, and great grandchildren, Olivia, Robin, Haylie, Matheo and Melissa.
Dorothy leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as many friends who will cherish her memory. The family is sincerely grateful and extend their heartfelt thank you to everyone who was able to visit Dorothy at the Misericordia Hospital and then Norwood Hospice before her passing.
Dorothy was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Clarence Lazarenko who passed away December 29, 2017. They were married on August 2, 1958. Together they enjoyed raising their 4 children in Edmonton, Spruce Grove, and for a brief time in Westbank, BC.
The last 20+ years were spent at their much-loved cabin at Smoky Lake, AB where they enjoyed hosting and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy (Dot) enjoyed cooking, baking, especially making pyrogies. She loved planting flowers at the cabin, especially begonias. She often spent time sitting on her deck watching birds, with humming birds being her favourite, and she enjoyed admiring the panoramic view of the river valley. She loved when family came out to visit, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
Dorothy was born on September 8, 1941. She was the 2nd child of 10 children born to Alex and Rena Arnault. She is survived by her siblings, Yvonne Park, Gary Arnault, Ron Arnault, Shirley Brocklehurst, Maxine Frigon, Joyce Lovell and Michael Arnault. She was pre-deceased by her parents Alex & Rena Arnault and her sister Vera Belton and brother Ray Arnault.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the ALS Society of Canada and Capital Care Foundation (www.capitalcarefoundation.net). The family is very appreciative of the care and compassion from the staff at Gene Zwozdesky Centre Norwood and the MAiD care team.
