Frances Mary Grell
Frances Mary (Coates) Grell, age 96 of Edmonton, Alberta died peacefully surrounded by her family on Nov. 29, 2018 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. She is the daughter of Bessie (Thompson) and Frank Coates and wife of the late William Anthony Grell. She is survived by her oldest brother John Coates, FSC age 104, children Frank Grell (Rachel Jean), Eddie Grell, Harold Grell, and Patricia Grell (Larry Richard), her grandchildren Mélanie and Dominique Grell and Thomas, William and Vincent Richard and great grandchildren Camille and Mathéo Lindsay.
Frances was a Registered Nurse (1947) training through Sunnybrook Medical Centre Toronto. She was born in Toronto but lived much of her married life in Canada’s North – Geraldton, Ont., Chibougamau, Que., and Leaf Rapids, Man. She loved the outdoors – fishing, boating, camping, birding, and growing flowers. She was also an avid knitter, sewer and bridge player. She was a life - long learner, keeping up with current affairs, politics and technology. She loved her family, always being there when it really counted. She had a very strong progressive Catholic faith which sustained her throughout the difficult times – especially most recently during her time of failing health.
Special thanks to Dr. Jean Wong and the staff of Rosedale Estates. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Joseph’s College (U of A) or Catholic Social Services.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
