Bruce Edward Malyk
We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Bruce Edward Malyk at the University of Alberta Hospital on November 27, 2024.
Bruce was born on August 22,1959 in Winnipeg. He grew up in the town of Lac du Bonnet, MB. In his youth he nurtured a deep love for music and taught himself to play guitar entirely by ear. After high school Bruce moved to the city of Winnipeg where he met his future wife, Deborah, and played guitar in local rock bands. He also went on to study at University of Manitoba.
Bruce was very dedicated to his career as a computer network architect. Throughout his career he had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout North America & places beyond. Bruce was highly respected by his colleagues and had a reputation for being the person able to solve the most challenging problems. He never lost his ability or desire to study and learn new technologies.
When Bruce wasn’t working he enjoyed reading from his extensive library. He taught himself woodworking and created a few well crafted pieces. Bruce also liked to cook. His spicy chili was a definite favorite. On occasion he enjoyed watching documentaries about space and history.
Later in life Bruce discovered Buddhism. He became a devout practitioner incorporating both meditation and yoga into his daily life. A favorite mantra of his was “Everything is impermanent.”
Left to mourn Bruce is his wife, Deborah and his son, Matthew. As well as many close and extended family members.
Bruce was predeceased by his mother Nora Malyk, father Edward Malyk, sister Blythe Hirst and nephew Calvin Hirst.
Bruce was a loving and caring husband and father. He was a good man that had a smile for everyone. He was always thought of as a kind and humble man. Bruce was a well respected professional. He will be deeply missed by his family and his colleagues.
Bruce will be forever loved and always remain in our hearts.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will take place in 2025.
