Duane Gibb’s family are saddened to share his passing on November 24 at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, (Patricia Barton Gibb), his three sons (Jevon, Jorey, Jacey), daughter-in-law (Ana), and countless friends, family, and loved ones. He is predeceased by his father (Douglas Peter Gibb) and mother (Joan Clarkson Gibb).

As quiet as he was considerate, Duane always put others before himself, and he was relentlessly involved in various community organizations throughout the years. He was on the Rotary District Expansion committee and was instrumental in starting numerous Rotary clubs in Alberta, including (but not limited to) the Rotary Club of Morinville Sturgeon and the two Rotary Clubs of St. Albert. His dedicated Service Above Self was rewarded with an honorary membership in the Morinville Sturgeon Rotary Club. He was also involved with the Kinsmen Club of Edmonton. As well Duane had a keen interest in local politics, despite never actually running himself.

After growing up on a farm near Barrhead, Alberta, Duane rarely strayed from his country life. He and Patricia eventually moved to an acreage in Sturgeon County, where they lived for 48 years, and raised their family. From father-son ski trips in the winter to summers spent on family vacations or visiting the Gibb farm, Duane leaves behind a life full of memories.

In 2018, Duane received a terminal cancer diagnosis and was given only a few months to live. In classic stubborn-Gibb fashion, he managed to beat the cancer into remission several times, which allowed him to enjoy such milestones as seeing his oldest son get married, attend a Gibb family reunion in 2023, and help his father celebrate his 100th birthday.

A celebration of life is being organized for 2025. Details and date will be shared at a later time.
