Merose was born in 1929 in Prestville, Alberta.  He grew up on a farm east of Rycroft near the banks of the Burnt River.  He attended Prestville School and then Royal Winner. He attained very good grades, even though he’d miss some crucial exams at seeding time. The teacher even asked his mom if he could come in after the fact because he was such a good student and she wanted to know what his full potential could be.  Life on the farm was full and it was also hard, children often worked at tasks that were beyond their years. Merose was responsible for milking cows and caring for the horses that took them to and from school by horse sleigh.

Later, after older sister Jean had her family, the Hucul kids were always excited when Uncle Merose and his brother stopped in at their house while out doing farm duties. Merose was on the family farm, until his early 20’s when he decided to go out to work in the oil patch. Shortly after, he married Lucille Pranskat. The couple lived for several years in High Prairie and later moved to Rocky Mountain House. They enjoyed the water and spent time on Crimson Lake. One year, brother Taras and wife Sharon brought the family to the lake and the Zamorsky kids remember uncle Merose’s untiring efforts to get them up on water skis.  His sisters, Jean and Sonia and their families had moved to British Columbia. Merose enjoyed his trips out to see them and also many a phone call with his sisters.

Years after his marriage ended with Lucy, Merose met Sandra (McQuarrie). Sandy and Merose made a great team. Merose brought home the pay cheques and Sandy invested the money wisely.  Although life was very much about work for Merose; he enjoyed taking many RV trips to Blue Grass festivals, annual trips to the Wanham Plowing Match, and cheering for his favorite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers. Merose worked 50 years in the drilling industry, 30 of those with Regent Drilling. His physical strength, determination, stubbornness, and authoritative style served him well. His accomplishments were rewarded with many industry awards and he garnered the top jobs in the drilling field.

A few years after Sandra passed, Merose met a “Special Lady”, Noella Eggen. Together Noella and Merose enjoyed dancing at seniors’ events, taking trips abroad, and camping. Merose took joy in being the fatherly figure for Noella’s five sons and daughter. Never having children of his own, Merose often said that Noella’s kids were the “bonus” in their relationship.

Left to mourn Merose is his companion Noella Eggen and her sons: Claude (Lorraine) Bouchard, Paul Bouchard, Gilbert (Jacqueline) Bouchard, Lucien (Claudette) Bouchard, Dan Bouchard and her daughter Diane (Glen) Bouchard.

Merose will also be missed and mourned by his nieces and nephews; Cliff Hucul, Darlene (Bryan) Spooner, Gale (Debbie) Hucul, Heather Ralston, Tara (Ted) Sallis, Heather (Garry) Tansem, Doug (Karen) Zamorsky, David (Tammy) Zamorsky, Terry (Debbie) Zamorsky, as well as numerous grandnieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Sandy’s sons: Terry McQuarrie and Rob McQuarrie.

Merose is predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Sophia Zamorsky; his first wife Lucille, and his second wife Sandra. Also, by his siblings: Jean (Emil) Hucul, Sonia (Don Ralston, Taras (Sharon) Zamorsky, and Ruth Zamorsky. He is also predeceased by his brothers-in-law; Don Ralston and Emil Hucul; and sister-in-law Sharon Zamorsky Laughy and his nephew, Laurie Ralston.
