Georgina Rose LaForge
The family of Georgina LaForge is sad to announce her passing in the afternoon of December 1, 2024 with her daughter Renee by her side.
Georgina is survived by her two daughters Carrie Skinner (Darrell) of Kelowna and Renee Treptau of Edmonton, her three grandchildren, Alex, Ellen and Hayley, 2 great-grandchildren, Laila and Oliver and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her youngest sister Patricia Mitchell (Vancouver).
Georgina was predeceased by her husband Edward Joseph LaForge in 1993, her parents Irma and Buster Babcock, and two of her three sisters, Colleen and Barbara.
Georgina was born in Dawson Creek, BC during the Great Depression where her grandfather and Gramma Ravelli had a grain farm and a huge garden which supplied them with wonderful Italian staples like agnolotti. Her father owned a trucking and taxi company and photos of the four girls posing on the running boards were illustrative of their lives in their small Northern town.
Georgina moved to Edmonton with her mother and sisters as a young woman and worked as a legal assistant before meeting her husband Ed on a double date. They married in 1955 and lived in Fort St. John for 5 years before Ed and Georgie returned to Edmonton to purchase their lovely white bungalow in Gold Bar backing on to a wooded ravine. Their large city garden produced rhubarb, green beans, brown lettuce and carrots by the bucket. That would be their beloved home for over 50 years.
After Ed retired from the Oil Field business, Ed and Georgie bought a bright yellow Vanagon to fulfill their dream of driving across Canada which they completed all the way to Newfoundland. They loved that adventure and had more adventures to Hawaii, Mexico, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy, France and Greece. Georgina visited Spain, Portugal and Egypt on her own after Ed passed away and visited Hawaii and Mexico with Renee and Hayley. Georgina had a time share in Fairmount Hot Springs and shared memorable family holidays there.
After her daughters grew up and left the family home, Georgina volunteered at the Elizabeth Fry Society where she befriended women needing support and met other volunteers like herself whom she continued relationships with. She loved being an Edmonton Airport Ambassador, enjoyed the people she volunteered with and enjoyed talking to Moms with strollers. Her main volunteer job was child minding her grandchildren Alex and Ellen in Edmonton while Carrie attended U of A and visiting Hayley in Vancouver. Georgene, as she renamed herself, enjoyed supporting the pastimes of her two daughters: she loved to listen to Carrie playing piano and hearing about Renee’s world travels including to Australia, South East Asia and India.
A huge thank you to the friendly, caring staff at Jubilee Lodge. She was known by most. Her quality filled life was enriched by her daughter Renee visiting her most everyday and taking her for walks through the nearby River Valley to view her long-time home.
A small memorial will occur in summer of 2025 to celebrate our mother, sister, mother-in-law gramma, and great-gramma. Georgina will be interred beside her husband Ed at a future time.
In lieu of flowers please donate to The Red Cross as is Georgina’s habit.
Rest in peace our feisty, family focussed lady. You were loved and will be missed.
Our deepest condolences. Sending you our love during this dark time.

Carrie and Rene:
My deepest sympathies. This picture of your mom is very nice. She looks very happy! I remember her and she was always a wonderful lady.
Sincerely,
Bev Ryder
I remember my Gramma from when I was little. I always was well fed at Georginas house and never went hungry. The staple foods being, Sunny boy brand 9 grain cereal and beets, both the tops and the root. I didn’t like the beet greens at first but now quite like them. I thoroughly enjoyed her backyard deck on warm days being served fresh vegetables for lunch or a sandwich by her. She will be missed, but I will always have memories of her in Edmonton.
I will miss you Gramma, I remember going to sylvan lake with you in your yellow Van and the road trips going to Fairmont and Invermere.
