Barbara Jeanne Marie Hayne, 73, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024 after a 10 year battle with cancer.

Barb is survived by her three children, Keith (Michelle), Rob (Lori), and Sheena (Jordan); her seven grandchildren (her pride and joy), Taylor, Jordanna, Makenzie, Myles, Colby, Calvin, and Kacey; her three sisters, Pat, Val (Bernie), and Deb; her brother, Rick (Kathleen); her three sisters by choice, Delores, Donna, and Debbie; many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends and neighbours that she considered family. Barb was preceded by her husband, Keith; her father, Jack Brennan; her beloved mother, Bernice Brennan; her stepfather, Les Harvey; her mother-in-law, Avy Hayne; and extra special friends, Lilly, Marlene, and Hummer.

Growing up in a house with 5 children, Barb was happiest when her house was full: the more the merrier she would say.  In her childhood, it was the visits from her many cousins that filled the house and her heart. When she was married with kids, Barb’s house was a 2nd home for all the neighbourhood kids, and her house/yard were rarely empty. It wasn’t just the neighbourhood kids that were always welcome at the Hayne house, the door was always open to any friend or neighbour that wanted to stop by for a coffee and a chat: there was always coffee brewing at Barb’s for anyone that might stop by.

Barb worked as a lunch supervisor at Dovercourt School for almost 40 years surrounding herself with children that kept her young at heart.  She also made many friends at the school, some of which turned into lifelong friends. Barb and her partner in crime, Lilly, were arguably the most iconic lunch supervision team that the neighbourhood will ever know.

We didn’t think it was possible, but when Barb and Keith were blessed with grandchildren, the Hayne house filled with even more love.  Barb, the baby whisperer, got to put her skills to work, and was happiest when she was snuggling a baby, or watching her grandkids and dogs run amok in her yard. As her family grew, so did the love in her heart: the more the merrier.

Barb will be so, so missed.  But her loved ones draw comfort from the thought of her sitting at a heavenly kitchen table, coffee in hand, surrounded by all those that beat her there.

Happy trails to you… until we meet again…
