Rose Marie was born on November 17, 1930, to Joseph and Marie Kraemer, on a farm near Stanmore, Alberta. Her early education took place in a 3 room school in Stanmore, followed by grade 6 in Richdale, and grade 7-12 at Theresetta Convent in Castor. During her time at the convent, Rose Marie spent holidays at home and worked in the hospital nursery on her days off. After high school, Rose Marie pursued nursing at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, where she worked as a surgical nurse for 5 years. In 1957, she moved to Edmonton to help establish a nursing aide school. It is here where she met her husband Mel, in 1958 and they were married in 1960 at St. Anthony's Church, with her brother John officiating. Together they raised 7 children: Adrienne (Rick), John (Carmen), Christine (Dean), Patricia (Bruce), Paul (Cheryl), Shelley (Paul), and Curtis (Drina). Despite the busy household, Rose Marie found time to sew outfits for her children and explore her love for crafts such as crocheting and knitting.

A dedicated community member, Rose Marie volunteered as a driver for the Cross Cancer Hospital, worked as an enumerator for provincial and federal elections, and canvassed for various health foundations. She was also active in church ministries, contributing to funeral lunches, hospitality, and Eucharistic ministries.

In her later years, Rose Marie returned to nursing at Edmonton General Hospital until her retirement in 1995. Even in retirement she remained active, vacations in Canmore with her growing family, which now includes 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, always cherishing family time.

Rose Marie was predeceased by her stepbrother Rudy Horn (Helen) and survived by her brother John (Randi).

Rose Marie's life was marked by her deep commitment to her family, her faith, and her community, leaving a lasting legacy of love and service.

  4. Rose Marie is an inspiration to all as she was able to balance her life with being a caregiver through a nursing career while also raising her children and eventually a large extended family. Not only that but through her strong Faith she volunteered her time and energy by giving to others less fortunate. She will always remain a role model for me as someone who finished the race with Grace and Love for all. May she Rest in Peace.
