Douglas Leslie Bryks
Doug was born and raised in Edmonton and attended Eastglen High School. He excelled in many sports and participated in a number of teams during his school years and beyond. He would go on to graduate from NAIT with a business diploma. Following a five month adventure in Europe he began his career with Imperial Oil and that led to the opportunity to continue his studies, earning an accounting designation (now CPA) while working full-time and studying in the evenings. For most of his long and successful career, he worked for major companies in the oil industry.
Outside of work, Doug enjoyed rounds with friends at the Belvedere Golf Club where he was a long time member. He was a lover of dogs, especially beagles, an avid gardener (with perfect grass), and a whiz at killer Sudoku.
His love story and 47 year marriage to the late Mona (nee Downey) remains a heartwarming chapter in his life, remembered by those who witnessed their bond. They raised their family in Sherwood Park and had a wide circle of friends and neighbours with whom they shared many good times. Family was very important and he was always a dedicated hands-on dad, showing his kids, Darren and Marnie, unconditional love throughout their young lives. During that time, Doug was actively involved in community service as a member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs.
After Mona passed, Doug felt blessed to have met Janet Brown, his sweetheart and beloved partner for over 6 l/2 years. Together they created many happy times on the golf course, travelling, and being with good friends, many of whom he knew for over 50 years. Doug will always be known and remembered for his positive attitude and kindness, his zest for life, his sense of humour and quick wit, his devotion to family, and for having a big heart.
Doug was predeceased by his wife, Mona, parents, Doris and Edward, brother, Bob, and nephew, Matthew. Forever cherished by his children, Marnie and Darren (Jill) and his two adored grandsons, Spencer and Oliver. Doug will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Janet and by his brother-in-law, Ashley and wife Lynda Downey and nephew Frank.
With sincere gratitude, we thank Dr. Chrystal Chan and Dr. Alysa Fairchild for their exceptional care and compassion over the past two years.

Doug had a soft spot for Hope Mission; if desired, please consider a donation in his memory, or to the charity of your choice.
We were next door neighbours to Doug in our condo building. Doug’s robust laughter & love to joke with my husband & I, will long endear him in our hearts. We were grateful for the opportunity to provide homemade soups for Doug over the last few weeks before he entered hospital. His favourite was the split pea soup! As neighbours do, we checked on his unit while he was away on trips & vice versa.
Wishing heartful condolences to Janet & Doug’s daughter, son, daughter-in-law & grandsons.
