Brian Vincent Cadieux of Lac La Biche, Alberta passed away peacefully at the University of Alberta hospital in Edmonton, Alberta on Monday, September 9th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 73 years old.

Brian is survived by his partner, Geralyn Mouille, his 3 children, Bradley (Jo-Lyn), Carrie Sleno (Kevin Jackson), and Chantelle Cadieux; Geralyn’s son, Jared (Dana) and their children Connor and Hunter Mouille; his grandchildren Nathanial and Cassandra Cadieux, Carter, Madison and Logan Sleno, Maryn, Malayna and Ansen Rufiange; his siblings, Ken Cadieux (Irene) and Marie (Ed) Menshik; his wife, Collette (nee Rudiger) and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, Arphir Cadieux and Virginia (nee Donofrio); and his brother, Terrance Cadieux.

Brian was born on July 9, 1951 in Lac La Biche, Alberta to Arphir and Virginia Cadieux. He resided on the family homestead just northeast of town where as a child, he helped with fieldwork and caring for the animals. After he graduated he went to work as a driller for Tri-City drilling. He then moved to Nowsco where he started as a cementer and later became manager at the Lac La Biche station. Brian married Collette Rudiger in 1972. Together they moved into an apartment above the Lac La Biche post office. It was here that they started their family, welcoming their son Bradley. With a new baby, they soon outgrew the apartment and decided to move into a mobile home on the family homestead where they welcomed 2 more children - Carrie and Chantelle. They continued to live on the farm for 5 years before building a home across the road from Arphir and Virginia. During this time, Brian was an active member of the community serving as a trustee on the school board and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also founded the first LLB Oilmen’s bonspiel. He was an aviation enthusiast earning his pilot’s licence and enjoyed flying his Cesna 172 with his flying buddies.

In 1981 Brian accepted a transfer to Whitecourt, Alberta where they lived for 10 years. In 1991, work brought the family to Red Deer. He started working as an oilfield consultant shortly after that. Brian travelled a lot with his consulting business, spending the bulk of his time in Brooks, Alberta. He continued consulting on and off throughout the years working in Edson, Fort Nelson, Crossfield and Australia. He officially hung up his consulting hat in 2016.

Brian relocated to the family homestead after Virginia’s passing. He loved spending time on the farm. There was no where on earth that he would rather be. Brian always had an open-door policy and guests were always welcome to join him for a coffee, a smoke, a drink and conversation on the deck. He loved to travel, spend time with grandchildren and host and attend parties with his partner, Geralyn. He was always happiest when surrounded by people. In his latter years he enjoyed spending time at the local A&W where he and some of his dearest friends would meet for coffee and solve all of the world’s problems. Brian also thoroughly enjoyed his time spent at the Lac La Biche Heritage Society where he was an active member and bus driver. He was a member of the local Legion and ski-doo club. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, quadding, camping, and spending time maintaining the homestead. He took great pride in making his yard look great. Brian would love to share summer evenings with friends and family alike by building a large, warm and welcoming camp fire. If you were lucky enough to join him you may have experienced the joy and camaraderie when he pulled out his guitar and played and sang a few songs.

After his cancer diagnosis, Brian continued to surround himself with the people he loved. Over the summer he hosted a 4-day family reunion for the Donofrio side of the family, gathered a large group from the graduating class of 1969 on the farm for a 55th high school reunion and hosted many family members where all could enjoy his company in the place he loved most.

The family would like to thank the staff at the University of Alberta hospital in Edmonton, Alberta for the care and compassion Brian received while in their care.

Those wishing to make a donation in Brian's Memory may do so to the Cross Cancer Institute, or the charity of one's choice.
