Elwood Marlin Strand
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Elwood Marlin Strand who passed away on August 6, 2024 surrounded by his family who loved him so much.
Elwood was born September 1, 1941 in Barrhead, Alberta and grew up in Fort Assiniboine where he met the love of his life, Edith Schmidt. Together they had lived in Fort Assiniboine and then Barrhead before moving to Edmonton where they have resided ever since. Elwood enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially when it involved the outdoors. Elwood loved camping, quading, hunting and fishing and many a story could be told about these adventures. Elwood also enjoyed anything and everything to do with planes. In his younger years, he received his pilot’s licence and loved to fly.
Elwood will be lovingly remembered by Edith (Edie), his wife of 61 years, children Karen (Dennis) Butkowski, Stacey (William) Urwin and Fred (Michelle) Strand, grandchildren Cody Butkowski, Matthew Butkowski, Chantel Urwin, Jessica Urwin, Jewles Bailey-Strand and Derick Strand, brother Ron Strand, in-laws Erika and Egon Bastian as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Elwood is predeceased by his parents Marlin and Mable, sister Elaine (Cis) Deren, brother-in-law John Deren and half-sister Patricia Laing. Elwood will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In Elwood’s memory, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
