James Roy Bergum
It is with heavy hearts we say farewell to James Roy Bergum. Born on August 17, 1956 to James and Eileen Bergum in Wowota, Saskatchewan, Jim was the eldest of four children.
Whether it was showing his brothers and sister how to fix something, ride a motorcycle, watching TV together or bringing them treats, he was a great big brother.
Jim felt family was important and raised his daughters in Sylvan Lake, close to their grandma, aunt, uncle and cousins. He was a well-loved father and uncle to his daughters and nephews, building furniture and toys for them, teaching them practical skills and giving plenty of advice.
Jim and his brother Jeri spent many years working on the pipelines, following in the footsteps of their father and uncles. Later on, Jim became a teacher and enjoyed sharing his love of history, current events and his practical skills with students in Sylvan Lake and surrounding area.
Jim could always find someone to talk to. He was helpful to everyone he met, willing to share his time, his knowledge or just enjoy a good chat.
Jim leaves behind his brother Jade (Carol), daughters Carrie (Darren) and Laura (Cody), granddaughter Amary, nephews Chris and Cody and his special friend Glenna. He was predeceased by his brother Jeri, sister Jodi and grandson Damian.

My treasured friend and companion. I will miss jim terribly. We both settled recently in Edmonton and were a big support to each other navigating a new city life and building Edmonton as our home. Our goal was To be closer to family and create a new life chapter.
Sharing Our teaching experiences ( good and not so good) and our many moves through our lives ( my Cdn Air Force moves as a kid) his moves with family to multiple Alberta locations and Vancouver Island. Jim was an interesting conversationalist and well versed in so many areas . He loved learning how things worked, were built and was especially fond of hot rod restoration and engines Surprised me often with his extensive knowledge of history and all kinds of things. We shared so many good times even just to drive for an ice cream on a hot day. I saw his family home in Devon which he was proud to share Loved his brother, girls and nephews and spoke fondly of them to me. We cared about our families !
I know There will be a lasting hole in my world with him gone. goodbye jimmy roy!! Wishing you endless freedom and joy. Hugs my dear friend
Glenna,
Thank you for sharing such lovely memories of my father.
I can’t believe that he won’t be making those frequent phone calls just to chat and let me know how he is doing. This came so unexpected and a shock I still struggle with believing it. Jim was a huge huge part of my family since moving to sylvan lake 10 years ago. He had a huge influence and impact especially on my grand daughter and often called her over to see how school went that day as we walked home from school. They spent time together either chatting or Jim having her do small chores for him. She was on 5 at that time but as he watched her grow older the chores and conversations grew. Jim did a lot for my family from just visiting or fixing things in my home or yard I couldn’t do. He had the hugest heart for his friends and family especially his grandson Damien. Damien was Jim’s everything and now they both have peace together as Jim wanted to be. He will be dearly missed but he left behind so many good memories and laughs that will never be forgotten. RIP Jim.
To family and friends of Jim Bergum! I just found out today of Jim’s passing! I am saddened and shocked that he is no longer with all of us! We had the greatest of times visiting on the phone and great vents about substitute teaching! I will miss those great conversations and insights he had about teaching in the schools we both worked at!
Jim was an honest gentleman and spoke his mind clearly. We discussed every subject under the sun! I pray we will one day meet again and my husband and I and Jim will be able to talk forever on and on! Goodbye until we are all gathered together again!❤️
