Richard “Dick” White
Richard "Dick" White, 82, of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, passed away after battling cancer on May 5, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta. He was born on March 3, 1942, to Harvey and Helen White in Deloraine, MB. Dick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Dick worked as a bank manager for the Royal Bank, dedicating many years to his career. He moved with his family to various places, finally settling in Fort Saskatchewan before retiring in 1995. Even in retirement, Dick remained active, taking on roles such as a car salesman, tax preparer, and armored car security guard. His final career was as a bailiff for Serv-It for the past 20 years.
Kind, soft-spoken, and generous, Dick loved his family deeply. His gentle spirit was always willing to lend a hand to help family, friends, or strangers in need. He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters Joelle Caraher (Tarquin) and Trisha Kinniburgh (John), four granddaughters (Parker, Breanna, Claire, & Samantha), brother Ron White (Wendy) and their children (Myles, Brooks & April), sister-in-law Patti Prostebby (Doug) and their children (Justin & Cory), and sister-in-law Donna Fossbakken (Barry) and their children (Kristi & Ryan). He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Helen White and stepmother Ida White.
In his youth, Dick enjoyed flying his Cessna plane, boating, curling, dancing, and playing in a band with childhood friends. Later in life, Dick enjoyed playing with his grandchildren; listening to live music; vacationing in his timeshares in Whitefish, MT; Mexico; and Hawaii. Dick always had a love for animals but he had a special place in his heart for dogs. He cherished moments camping at Fork Lake with Shirley and their dog, Riley, and playing guitar and piano with loved ones.
A Celebration of Life for Dick will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm at Trinity Funeral Home, 10530-116 Street NW, Edmonton, AB.
During Dick’s last few months of life, he was compassionately & lovingly cared for at the Pilgram’s Hospice in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be sent to the Pilgram’s Hospice Society in honor of the deceased.
Dick's kindness, love for his family, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.
Deepest condolences, i worked with Dick as a fellow bailiff. He was such a gentle quiet sole, we enjoyed his stories at office functions and amazed at his zest for continued bailiff work. If Dick can do it so can we, sad that illness robbed him of continuing his passions .
