Wanda Bliemel
Peacefully and surrounded by close family, Wanda Bliemel passed away on January 12, 2024, age 83, in Edmonton.
Born in Castor, Alberta, Wanda grew up on a nearby farm. She was born to the late Fred and Caroline Schritter and was one of three children. A young Wanda eventually moved to Edmonton, where she lived a long life—she married (later divorced), raised children, and worked many years in housekeeping.
Wanda was known for being very strong-willed and a hard worker who always kept busy. She loved to cook, and her family always looked forward to delicious turkey dinners and shortbread cookies during the holidays. In her retirement, she was a frequent patron of local shops in Edmonton, especially health food stores and farmers’ markets. Among her favourite things to buy were organic carrots and potatoes. She also loved spring weather, movies that made her laugh, and a good cup of dark roasted coffee.
Wanda is remembered by her three children, Jim (Yolanda) Bliemel, Rick (Charlotte) Bliemel, and Jeanette (Erik) Bliemel; grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon), Brandon, Catherine, and Kristen; great-grandchildren, Addison and Maverick; close friends, Mary, Rena, Evelyn, and Violet; nephews, Brian and Michael; brother, Wilfred.
She is also predeceased by her granddaughter Taylor Angel, her niece Michelle, and her elder sister Wilma.
Special thanks goes out to the entire staff at Norwood Hospice.
