Margrethe Hansen
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Margrethe Hansen on February 24, 2024 at the age of 99.
Margrethe was born in Hjorring Denmark, the second youngest of 10 children. She married Hilbert Hansen in Gothenburg Sweden on December 20, 1947, and moved to Canada in 1952 with 2 young children settling in Edmonton.
Predeceased by her husband Hilbert in 2003, she will be dearly missed by her children; Wilfred (Cathie) Hansen- Calgary, Kent (Cornelia) Hansen- Edmonton, Annie (George) Geldart- Vernon B.C., Paul Hansen and Alice Strudwick- both of Edmonton. She had 9 grandchildren (Mark, Erik, Karina, Mats, Selena, Scott, Martin, Karl and Paula) and 11 great grandchildren.
Grethe had a great sense of humour, positive attitude and a zest for life. She kept up to date on what was happening in the world (including the Oilers) and enjoyed gardening and took immense pride in her yard. She won the Bloom award several times. She loved cooking and baking special cookies as presents, and learned to prepare Gluten free recipes for family members. There were many games of Cribbage over the years; always having to play at least 3 games. We estimate that she knitted well over 2,000 tuques; most of which were donated to the needy and homeless.
Her legacy was her unwavering love and support for the entire family.
At her request there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place.
If so desired, donations in her memory can be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
I send my sincere condolences during this time of deep sorrow. The Bible gives a comforting hope and promises that your loved one will live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more. (John 5:28, 29; Revelation 21:4)
