Elizabeth “Bonnie” Moyer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Gigi, Elizabeth “Bonnie” Moyer. After her quick decline in health, she passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024. Mom never lost her graciousness, sense of humour and beauty to those around her despite the cancer and discomfort. I quote her in the end saying during her “spa” bath to her caring aids in hospice care “if this is any indication of what heaven is like, I am ready and look forward to being with my soulmate again.” She was pre-deceased by her devoted and loving husband and soulmate Eric, whom I have no doubt she is dancing with right now. She is survived by her three children, Kimberley, Erica and Christopher; her 8 grandchildren, Thomas, Kristen, Michael, Dylan, Quinton, Lillian, Madalynn and Nicholas; and her three great grandchildren William, Virellia and Jack, whom she loved with all of her heart. Being from a large family mom is also survived by her two sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in Morin Heights a small town in the Laurentians in Quebec on May 23, 1943, her parents were Henry and Margarite Gillingham and she was the baby of seven children. This is where she was raised and learned the value of family and community, which she carried throughout her life in her many charitable activities. She also met and married the love of her life and embarked her on a life that, after 51 moves, grew her from the shy small-town girl to a resilient strong woman living in many different places including California for 5 years. Although dads career kept them on the move, it was a lifestyle they both embraced and met many long lasting friends from all over the world. They carried this into retirement living the “snowbird” life and loving their winters in the South with their little dogs and trailer. In the summer they were known to be at the lake and had a cottage get away throughout their lives and retired permanently to the lake before health would take them to the retirement living both in Ontario and mom in Alberta. Mom cherished the many memories they built over the years and enjoyed sharing them with everyone.

Moms passion was her family first and foremost, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Gigi) right to the end. Mom was never idle and was often found helping others either through church, Eastern Star or various charities. She loved dancing, dressing up (many costumes for many occasions), gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking (never a shortage of food) or playing a good game of golf, curling, cards (cribbage, Euchre or bridge), dominoes or bingo and this could also be either in person, on her tablet or a gameshow on TV. Most of all mom loved spending time with her loved ones, family, friends and neighbors alike and would show her love by baking her famous cookies for them all!

We will miss mom greatly but also know how much she missed dad and seek solace that they are now together and at peace. In keeping with their wishes we will be holding a small graveside service at a future date at the Trinity Anglican Church in Morin Heights where they will both be laid to rest together in the cemetery of the small church they were married in.
